What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the incredible biodiversity and stunning natural beauty of Podocarpus National Park Bombuscaro, particularly the diverse tropical forests and the rewarding views from the 'mirador'. However, the park's challenging trails and frequent rain can make it difficult for some, and the lack of facilities requires thorough preparation.
"There's very little info about staying here so I'll just get into it:
Entering from the Zamora side you can either walk 6.5km to the park from town or get a taxi to the park entrance (from which point there's a further 1km by foot).
As of this post there was a cabin available for people to stay in. 4 double beds, $3 per person. You can call ahead to let them know you plan to stay however I don't have the number, presume you'd get it from Ministerio de Ambiente. There was another cabin being build but it's not yet finished (gravel floor, no beds). You can setup tents however as it rains all the time it's a bit of a swamp.
Also if you're leaving from Loja for a day trip to Zamora leave as early as you can, the bus takes at least an hour.
Hope this is usefel, enjoy the park!"

"We entered through the Zamora side. The forest was the most diverse tropical forest we have ever seen and the butterflies out of this world beautiful. Birding wasn't great, maybe because of the rainy season."
Michele Nuss
"Beautiful place with short and long trails not suitable for those non fit enough or disabled.
Did only 1 km to the "mirador" . Good short hiking (45 min up) for rewarding views of Loja and magnificent mountains around. Other trails for serious hikers and enough time. Better to visit in dry months or when skies are clear. Register at arrival ask park guards for open trails etc. Don't leave the trails. Bathrooms not available along the route. Bring enough water and granola."
