Reviews Summary

Visitors are drawn to Ciudad Alfaro for its spectacular panoramic views of Montecristi and its historical significance, particularly the Eloy Alfaro Mausoleum. While some appreciate the local craft displays and the unique architecture, the inconsistent availability of the museum is a recurring point of disappointment. The proximity to Panama hat shopping in Montecristi is a major plus for many.

"The view from up there is a beauty. You can see the entire town of Montecristi, where Panama hats were invented (the were perfected in Cuenca). Make sure to visit Modesto Hats, they have the nicest store on the strip, they make there own hats and they finish them there too. They also have all of the different qualities from average to medium to good. Unfortunately the museum is no longer open, I’m not sure why."

"Ciudad Alfaro is high above Montecristi, Ecuador1, a town a few miles from Manta, Ecuador. Ciudad Alfaro is a meeting place for legislators from all parts of Ecuador. It has a nice, small museum and a mausoleum for Eloy Alfaro Delgado. Montecristi is a pretty town. We bought one of their locally-made from paja-toquilla. Photos of the plaza, church, hats, ciudad Alfaro."

Guillermo Loubriel

"Not the American experience, but they have stores to look through. Still, it is very interesting on the displays of Ecuadorian history. Pictures are there for the taking. All in all we enjoyed our time."
