Reviews Summary
Teatro Pumapungo is a versatile venue praised for its intimate feel and good acoustics, hosting a variety of quality performances from theater to concerts. While generally well-regarded, some visitors have noted issues with late entry, lack of programs, and inconsistent lighting or sound levels. The integration with the free Pumapungo Museum adds significant value to a visit.
"A jewel in a city full of gems 💎! Housed on the impressive premises of the Pumapungo Museum, next to the Banco Central, this is a venue well worth visiting. With 700 seats it is big enough for a wide variety of events and small enough to still feel
intimate. The seating was comfortable and My wife and I were easily able to see well while enjoying the good (if not amazing) acoustics. Sadly, the orchestra pit for the ballet we watched was not well arranged resulting in very poor visibility for the musicians, who had to struggle to follow the conductor."

"Swan lake on ice
We arrived by taxi 40 minutes prior to show start time. As we approached the entrance 2 men came rushing over to us asking our age, we felt quite intimidated by them they wore no uniform nor did they have any ID. Once we established what they and who they were we entered the theater. We were directed to our seats , the seats were quite comfortable and there was a generous space between the roses. I was able to walk around and ask some questions, one of which was why is there no program for the performance? I was told that they do not provide programs, what is it you need to know. I asked who are the performers where do they come from? I was introduced to an other lady , whose name i can not recall. She told me all of the names of the cast and where they come from. So now i return to my seat. The lights go down and an announcement t ellos us that the show is about to start. For the next 25 minutes people are still coming in, this so distracting as they struggle to get to there seats and the chatter that goes with it. Why is this allowed? After that point we were able enjoy the show, for such a small space the performers did a very good job. The sound system was far to loud and at time there was over modulation of the sound causing the speakers to produce bad sounds, this said the choice of music was very good. As for the lighting, very disappointing very little imagination in the use of the lights to enhance the performance.
We enjoyed the performance, for the price $45,00 a seat we would expect a program and that once the performance has started that entry to the seating area was blocked until the intermission. The toilets were clean and well supplied. Did not see much for the handicapped patrons in the way of access or seating, outside there is a ramp but it was badly in need of maintenance to make it safe to use."

"The Cuenca Symphony performs here.
We had the pleasure of seeing a classical concert performed by the Cuenca Symphony. The venue is beautiful and the performance was outstanding. And to top it off, the concert was free! If you are a lover of classical music, find out when the symphony is playing and definitely go see them."
