What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
ATV tours in Punta Cana offer a mix of adventure and cultural stops, with many visitors enjoying the thrill of driving through muddy trails and visiting natural sites. However, some reviews point out that tours can feel rushed, with significant time spent at gift shops and less actual driving than expected. The value for money can be inconsistent, with some feeling it's a highlight and others a waste of time.
"These reviews are not real. Go through and look how many 1st time reviews there are.
We booked through this site and were then told we would be picked up by adventure boogies an obvious different company.
Your first stop off the shuttle is a gift shop, a little over an hour of your 3 hour venture is spent here, where multiple people approach you with baskets begging you to buy. When you actually get into your utv, you drive single file going 10mph if you get out of a single file line you get stopped and yelled at by multiple different people. You might be thinking this is okay, I have a family… wrong. When the guides are not standing in the road peeing in full view of the train of utvs you’re going the the most poverty striken areas you could think of and have small children rushing the vehicles begging. You then get to stop and see a cute little dance by 5 people and spend 20 minutes waiting for the guides to take photos. The whole ordeal lasts 4 hours, only about 1 is spent in the utv’s. It’s a complete waste. If this was free, it would not be worth it."

"I encourage you to try this if you have time, hopped on flight right after. They have translator too if you struggling to keep up on spanish. Bathroom are clean, you get to drive on the real road, get the basic package it all the same since you folding the guide the entire time. Take advantage of everything they have to offer. If you see someone struggling on the cave part help them up that is the only thing I had hard time getting up because slippery and wet. Most importantly don't forget to have fun! We got special deal compared to the other place. Alsoif you ever driven a tractor or tug you'll do fine."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Key tips for families: Ensure your chosen tour operator has good safety protocols and provides necessary gear like helmets. Be prepared for the mess – old clothes are a must! The stops at caves and beaches can be a hit with kids, offering a chance to cool off and explore.
💰 Budget Travelers
Be mindful of what's included. Some tours might have hidden costs or push expensive add-ons. Prioritize tours that clearly state what’s included in the base price, such as hotel transfers and basic stops. Remember that the most expensive tour isn't always the best value.
❤️ Couples & Adventure Seekers
Adventure seekers should research tours that emphasize off-road driving and speed. While some tours are more about the stops, others promise a more rugged experience. Look for reviews that mention actual driving time and challenging terrain. Don't forget to pack your sense of adventure and be ready to get a little wild!

The Thrill of the Ride: ATV vs. Buggy
Regardless of your choice, the core experience involves driving through the Dominican Republic's diverse landscapes. Expect to encounter muddy paths, dusty trails, and sometimes even shallow water crossings. The guides often lead the way, ensuring a relatively safe, albeit exhilarating, journey. Some reviews mention that the pace can be slow, especially if the tour is crowded, so managing expectations about high-speed thrills is key.
Many tours emphasize the 'real' Punta Cana experience, taking you away from the resort areas into the countryside. This often includes stops at local farms for tastings of coffee, cacao, and rum, as well as visits to natural attractions like caves and beautiful beaches such as Macao Beach. These stops provide a welcome break from the driving and a chance to experience local culture and natural beauty.
Navigating the Tour: What to Expect on the Ground
Safety and gear are also points of discussion. While helmets are usually provided, some travelers have reported tours where proper safety equipment like helmets and goggles were not adequately supplied, leading to a less secure experience. It's crucial to check what your specific tour operator provides and consider bringing your own protective gear, like a bandana or goggles, to ensure comfort and safety from dust and mud.
Despite some criticisms, many still find the tours to be a fun and memorable experience, especially when embracing the adventurous spirit. The key is to go in with realistic expectations. If you're looking for pure, unadulterated speed and adrenaline, you might be disappointed. However, if you're open to a mix of driving, cultural stops, and a good dose of mud, it can be a highlight of your trip.
