What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Puerto Plata's resort nightlife offers a lively atmosphere with many all-inclusive options. While many visitors enjoy the vibrant energy, music, and convenience, some have encountered issues with inconsistent pricing for tourists versus locals and a lack of clear price lists at certain venues. The music selection can also be a point of contention for some.
"I was there January 5, 2025. Saturday going into Sunday. I arrived with 2 other American girls, 2 Dominican girls and 1 Dominican guy. I had 7 others on their way there. We decided to get bottles while everyone was on their way. They refused to let us buy any Rum but other Dominican customers could buy. They don’t have the price on the menu because they told the 1 Dominican guy with us, they don’t put the price on menu because they charge a different price to tourists vs locals…. Example… one bottle 8000 pesos for locals and 12,000 for Tourists 👀 that is so criminal & unwelcoming. Never trust a business that doesn’t have their prices on the menu!!! We ended up leaving and going to Latin Disco where we bought several bottles and the prices were listed on the menu. DONT LET THIS BAR/CLUB ROB YOU!!
2 pictures are at Kvair/Lux, the rest are at Latin disco"

"This spot it’s for everybody. Even thou they played to much bachata and techno music back to back. Okay so I went on Saturday and if u didn’t buy a bottle you will be standing up all nite. We was just my husband and me so I guess we did buy the bottle we was visiting for the weekend any ways. The bottle price was fair and the girl was nice and attentive. It’s no cover to come in. It’s not a dance floor at all. U will have to dance on whatever spot or section that u are in. Next door there’s a casino not to crowded and the bathrooms is downstairs and was clean. There’s a lady there that handle u the towel paper to dry ur hands. Overall it looks good and the atmosphere is cool."

"DON'T GO THERE AS A TOURIST! They physically forced me to pay 2300 peso when I wanted to leave. This place has to be shut down and people should be warned.
To the owner: Hopefully, politur will reach out to you. This is how you shoot yourself in your foot! You scare off tourists."

The All-Inclusive Experience
Popular choices include Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort, Cofresi Palm Beach, Iberostar Costa Dorada, and Viva Heavens by Wyndham. These resorts often cater to different vibes, from family-friendly to adult-focused, and some even boast their own nightclubs. While the convenience is a major draw, travelers should be aware of potential pricing discrepancies between tourists and locals at some establishments outside the resort premises.
For those seeking a taste of the all-inclusive life without a full stay, some resorts offer day passes. For example, Viva Heavens by Wyndham provides an all-inclusive day experience from 9 am to 6 pm, including meals, drinks, and access to facilities for a set fee. This is a great option for cruise ship passengers or day-trippers looking to sample the resort lifestyle.
Nightlife and Entertainment
Beyond the resorts, places like LaLola Beach Club offer a vibrant atmosphere with music and drinks, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. For those seeking a more local experience, venues like Latin Disco are mentioned, though it's important to note that music preferences can vary, with some places focusing heavily on bachata and techno.
It's crucial for visitors to be aware of potential pricing differences. Some Reddit users have reported that certain establishments charge tourists significantly more than locals, and prices may not always be clearly displayed on menus. This practice can lead to unexpected costs, so it's advisable to inquire about prices beforehand or stick to venues with transparent pricing.
Unique Stays and Eco-Tourism
These eco-lodges often provide a tranquil escape, allowing visitors to connect with the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic. They can offer day passes that include access to pools and gardens, making them accessible even for a short visit. This contrasts with the bustling energy of the larger resorts, offering a different pace and perspective on the region.
Travelers interested in these types of accommodations should research accessibility and transportation options in advance. The blend of resort luxury and unique, nature-oriented stays showcases the diverse tourism offerings in Puerto Plata.
