What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the National Wine Salon for its unique concept of unlimited Czech wine tasting in atmospheric underground cellars. The vast selection and value for money are frequently highlighted. However, some guests report negative experiences with specific staff members at the cashier, which can detract from an otherwise excellent visit.
"We two drove into Valtice for the first time on a Thu in Aug, checked into our lodging, and walked up and into the Salon just before 3pm to begin the unlimited 2 hour tasting option. Wonderful experience and a great concept: we were able to sample the breadth of Czech varietals and wineries in one place.
Though the printed descriptions are in Czech, one can translated just one wine's description (using the QR code) and learn to read the graph that is included with every description.
Underground location in old arched red-brick cellars makes it a precious experience."

"Initially it started out as good wine tasting experience. Two guys in the cellar who helped us out throughout the session were friendly and helpful. However, the lady with short hair at the cashier really ruined the whole experience after that. I purchased 4 bottles there and they did not provide any protective wrapping for international travelers. My bottles made sound by hitting each other in one plastic bag, so I politely requested for bubble wraps and this lady refused in a very rude manner saying she would not give because I had an extra plastic bag!?? It was really uncomfortable watching her treating most customers that way while I was there, showing the most unhappy face and kept refusing giving away bubble wraps and plastic bags. Are those so expensive in Czech? I could pay for it if she just nicely said it was not free. I thought it was basic to wrap bottles safely as most of their customers are travelers and I wouldn't have bought anything if I had known her bad attitude toward customers."

"Great Chech Repablic wine selection. Additionally around 11.11 svatomartinske slavnosti they organize nice events during which you can try multiple wines."

The Art of Czech Wine Tasting
While the printed tasting notes are in Czech, the Salon has integrated technology to enhance the visitor experience. QR codes are available for each wine, providing access to English translations, detailed tasting profiles, and often helpful graphs that illustrate the wine's characteristics. This makes the tasting accessible and informative for international visitors. The staff, particularly the younger male attendants, are often noted for their helpfulness in guiding guests through the selection and explaining the nuances of each wine.
It's worth noting that the overall experience can be influenced by staff interactions. While many find the service excellent, some reviews mention less-than-ideal encounters with specific staff members at the point of sale. Planning your visit to coincide with less busy times can enhance the relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to fully savor the wines and the unique ambiance of the historic cellars.
Exploring the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape
Visitors can easily spend a full day or more exploring this landscape. Key attractions include the magnificent Lednice Castle with its impressive greenhouse and minaret, and the charming Valtice Castle, which houses the National Wine Salon. Between these main sites, numerous smaller structures like the Temple of the Three Graces, the Apollo Temple, and the Rendezvous (Trianon) dot the landscape, each offering unique architectural styles and picturesque views. The entire area is interconnected by walking paths and cycling routes, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
Getting around the Lednice-Valtice area is best done by bicycle, which can be rented in both towns. Horse-drawn carriages are also available for a more leisurely experience. The relatively flat terrain makes it accessible for most visitors. Combining a wine tasting at the National Wine Salon with a leisurely exploration of this grand estate provides a comprehensive and unforgettable experience of South Moravia.
