What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Moravian Museum Dietrichstein Palace offers intriguing exhibits like the Venus of Věstonice and a shoe collection, but visitor experiences are marred by inconsistent exhibition access and dated facilities. Some guests found staff unhelpful, and locker systems problematic, leading to frustration despite the historical value of the collections.
"An interesting gallery in an old historical building. I visited an exposition about shoes. It was surely full of valuable information, but also not that long. It took me about 30 minutes to finish the whole tour, which were two rooms.
Staff working at the place is very pleasant to communicate with.
There is a changing room at the museum where you can leave your coat in a locker. That's very handy."

"Cool place, and some times you can find a market here."
Miguel Machado
"Horrible visit.
The lockers say "1 euro" (aren't we in Austria?), the cashier claims to take ten crowns - but it doesn't fit, it doesn't work. The premises are neglected, the approach to visitors is unprofessional. The entrance fee is world-class, the facilities are the misery of Eastern Europe.
I was told that I might not be allowed in with a small backpack, while other visitors with luggage half way up their backs walked as they wanted - and even bumped into the exhibits.
Never again.
Salieri's exhibition without supervision, Venus 100 - you weren't supposed to take pictures, but no one checked. So the honest ones didn't take pictures and the others had free rein. In addition, there was no soap in the toilets.
It was not clearly stated whether the original Venus of Věstonice was on display or just a copy. If it was a copy, the museum didn't even bother to state this crucial information. How are visitors supposed to know? The label was missing completely or not visible."

Navigating Exhibition Access
This limitation can be a major disappointment for those planning their visit. The museum's explanation often cites heating issues, which, while understandable, detract from the visitor experience. It is highly recommended to verify which exhibitions are currently open before your visit, especially if you are traveling during the shoulder seasons or winter. The museum's official website or a direct phone call would be the best way to get this crucial information.
For those who can access them, the World of Minerals, Extinct Life in Moravia, and the Karl Absolon Memorial are often available at a reduced combined ticket price, making them a worthwhile consideration if other floors are closed.
Visitor Experience and Staff Interaction
Issues with locker functionality and bag policies also surface frequently. Lockers may require specific currency (Euros or Czech crowns) and can be difficult to operate. Furthermore, there have been instances where visitors with small backpacks were denied entry, while others with larger bags were permitted, leading to confusion and frustration.
Despite these challenges, some visitors have found the staff to be pleasant. The changing room facilities for coats are generally appreciated. However, the overall impression is that the museum's operational aspects, from ticketing to visitor management, could benefit from modernization to align with visitor expectations.
The Venus of Věstonice: A Prehistoric Icon
Visitors often express a strong desire to see this iconic piece. However, there have been instances where the clarity regarding whether an original or a replica is on display has been lacking. Clear labeling and information about the authenticity of displayed artifacts are crucial for visitor understanding and trust.
Due to its importance, the Venus of Věstonice exhibition is a major draw. It's essential to confirm its accessibility when planning your visit, as it is often part of the prehistoric collections that may be subject to floor closures.
