Reviews Summary

The Krkonoše Museum Vrchlabí is a modern, large, and highly interactive museum praised for its engaging exhibits that appeal to all ages, especially children. However, a significant drawback for international visitors is the predominantly Czech-only content, with limited translation support and staff English proficiency, leading to potential frustration despite the educational value. Reddit

"Very large and modern museum, we with children had 2 hours to visit, and it wasn't enough. It was interesting to all if us, to all age groups. I highly recommend. DNA stairs alone are significant"

Nataliia Kudlai

"The museum is fascinating and offers a wide variety of themes, many presented in creative and thought-provoking ways. However, I found one room troubling. A wall text describes DNA as a “living book” containing the past and future, an “archive of knowledge” to be deciphered by future generations. Right beside this, the exhibition shows video footage of African slums and people collecting water from a puddle. Without explanation or context, this juxtaposition risks being interpreted as racist—or at least leaves itself open to that reading.

I believe the museum could improve this room by providing clearer curatorial framing, for example explaining what the intended link between DNA and the video material is meant to be (please, tell!). This would help visitors (pupils!) understand the message without falling back on harmful/asocial associations. Since other parts of the museum (such as exhibits on ski tourism and the hotel industry) were contextualized and even critiqued, it seems only fair to apply the same standard here"

"Disappointing and Not Foreign-Friendly

I visited this museum and had a very disappointing experience. Nowhere was it indicated that all the information would be only in Czech. When I asked about it, they handed me a small audio device, which helped a bit, but only provided partial information — definitely not enough to fully understand or enjoy the visit.

The museum is clearly not adapted for international visitors. There were no translations, the staff only spoke Czech, and when I asked the guide to speak in English, she said she couldn’t. I was visiting with my boyfriend, who speaks Czech, and the guide repeatedly came to speak to him, ignoring the fact that I couldn’t understand anything. Even after I asked for explanations in English, she kept talking to him in Czech right in front of me.

On top of that, the entrance fee was 10 euros — a very high price for such a non-inclusive experience. I left feeling frustrated and excluded. This museum is not welcoming for non-Czech speakers, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it to other travelers."
