Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Janov Lookout Tower for its stunning 360-degree views and free entry, making it a worthwhile stop for those in the area. The informative plates are a nice touch for identifying landmarks. However, the tower's noticeable sway in the wind and the open metal staircase are significant drawbacks for those with a fear of heights.

"Fun for a short stop if being in the area. Nice views from above. 160 steps to go up. Free entry. It's wobbly up there. Don't go if you have a fear of heights. Gotta love it. Funny to see how they've marked the bolts so they can verify if they haven't moved. Not sure what that says about them trusting their own construction. Free parking just 200 meters away from the tower. Just a one minute walk to get to the tower."

"An amazing experience to have. If you want to get up, you need to climb up a metal spiral staircase. For some reason some of the railing was broken, but I'm sure they are working on it. I do not recommend coming up there if you are scared of heights. Once you come up there you realize that the tower actually has some movement due to the wind. But no need to worry , it will not fall down. When you're up there, you can get some amazing photos which is very nice. I do not recommend dropping your phone for obvious reasons 😂. Would come again and I recommend to those who love observating nature!"

The Engineering Marvel: Understanding the Sway

The Janov Lookout Tower is a fascinating structure, notable for its height and the gentle sway it exhibits in the wind. This movement is a natural consequence of its design and the forces of nature. While it might be unnerving for some, it's a sign that the tower is responding dynamically to its environment rather than being rigidly fixed. Visitors have observed that the tower can feel quite wobbly, especially with even a slight breeze. This characteristic is often mentioned in reviews and social media posts, serving as a heads-up for those planning a visit. Reddit+1

Despite the perceived wobbliness, the tower is generally considered safe by those who have experienced it. The construction is designed to withstand these movements. Some visitors even find the sensation to be part of the unique thrill of the experience. It's a reminder of the forces at play and the engineering that allows such structures to stand tall. However, for individuals with a pronounced fear of heights, this dynamic movement might amplify their anxiety, making it a crucial factor to consider before ascending. Reddit

It's worth noting that the upper levels of the tower are part of a cell tower, meaning not all of it is accessible to the public. The accessible viewing platform offers the panoramic views that draw most visitors. The information plates at the top are a thoughtful addition, helping visitors orient themselves and learn about the landscape spread out before them. Reddit

Capturing the Landscape: Photography Tips

Janov Lookout Tower is a photographer's dream, offering unparalleled 360-degree views of the surrounding natural beauty. The expansive vistas include the Labe River, the rolling hills of the Bohemian Central Mountains, and on clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Germany. The presence of information plates with photos is a fantastic aid for identifying specific landmarks, such as the iconic Pravčická brána rock arch. For those looking to capture the finer details of distant formations, bringing a pair of binoculars is highly recommended. Reddit

When planning your photo session, consider the time of day. Late afternoons often provide the best lighting conditions with the warm glow of the 'golden hour,' creating dramatic and atmospheric shots. Early mornings can also be rewarding, especially if you're aiming for a serene and misty landscape. However, a word of caution from fellow travelers: be extremely careful with your equipment. Dropping a phone or camera from this height would be a significant and likely unrecoverable loss. Reddit

While the tower itself is a unique subject, focus on the sweeping panoramas. The open design of the viewing platform means you have an unobstructed view in all directions. Remember that the tower can sway, so ensure your camera is steady or use a tripod if possible, though space might be limited. The experience of being high up, with the wind around you and the vast landscape below, is something you'll want to capture effectively.
