What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Grand Café Orient is celebrated for its breathtaking cubist interior, offering a unique architectural experience. While the ambiance and decor are consistently praised, reviews on service and food quality are mixed, with some finding the cake dry and service slow, though many still find it a worthwhile stop for the atmosphere.
"We stopped by for drinks and dessert, and were immediately struck by the beauty of the space—the expansive windows, the wooden grand piano, and the elegant cubist-inspired décor create a truly memorable atmosphere.
We ordered Turkish coffee, ginger tea, and their Grand Café Orient, a light chocolate cake served with English mint cream. The Turkish coffee was pleasant; although it was unexpectedly served in a tall glass, the presentation didn’t affect the flavor, so no complaints there. The ginger tea was refreshing, and the handy little lemon-squeezing device was a surprisingly fun touch.
As for the dessert, I have mixed impressions. The Grand Café Orient cake is visually stunning, and the English mint cream was a delightful surprise—smooth, subtle, and refined, avoiding the common mistake of making it taste like toothpaste.😊 However, the cake itself leaned a bit dry. It was indeed as light as promised, which kept it from feeling overly rich or heavy, but a touch more moisture would have elevated it further.
The staff were warm and efficient, and we appreciated the dessert display near the counter. It would be even better if the individual items were labeled, as it would help guests identify the treats at a glance.
Overall, a lovely experience in a beautifully designed café."

"The place looks lovely and has amazing cubism interior. Coffee was nice but the lady serving us wasn’t. The savoury pancake dish I ordered was warm on some parts and ice cold on the others. Not sure I would come here again. It took us ages to get the bill as our waitress kept running away. When we finally got hold of another waiter, he was nice as he allowed us to pay in Euros (it’s cash only)"

"Saw this cafe on the honest guide channel and decided to pop in for a drink, staff were friendly friendly and helpful. Be aware this cafe is cash only! I didn't realise this, but the waiter was very kind and allowed me to leave to get cash from the ATM. The décor is beautiful, and the drinks were great, although on the expensive side for Prague, but well worth it for the atmosphere. Would recommend coming here if you're in Prague, just remember to bring cash."
