What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Chefparade Cooking School in Prague offers a mixed bag of experiences. While many praise the delicious food, fun atmosphere, and helpful chefs, some visitors have noted discrepancies between advertised services and reality, particularly regarding language instruction and the hands-on nature of classes. The cost is also a point of consideration for some.
"Not Recommended
I would not recommend this place to anyone. It is nothing like what was advertised. Despite paying a high fee, they do not provide the services they promised. They claimed to offer training in English, but there was none at all.
For the money I paid, I would have been much happier simply going to a restaurant and enjoying a proper meal. On top of that, they did not even provide a certificate or any kind of token after attending the training."

"Wow! So far two courses and it was amazing and most importantly delicious! Both chefs were super helpful and I can honestly say I learned something even though I cook already. I was on a beef special and an Indian kitchen, both were amazing, it is a great gift to anyone :)"

"Not as advertised: this is not a cooking school, but a cooking demonstration. You don't get to actually cook the food. You watch a cook make the food. A cook that in our case was overly tired and not motivated at all. The market tour in winter should either cost less than in summer at least it should be clear that most stalls will be empty. There was no information shared about the market and the food for the cooking "demonstration" was not even bought there.
The price for this class is too much. So all in all: if you want to see someone else prepare Czech food and are not keen on preparing it yourself: by all means, visit this course. But our group would have preferred to eat in one of the many very good restaurants of Prague for fraction of the price."

The Chefparade Experience: More Than Just Cooking
However, it's important to note that the 'hands-on' aspect can vary. Some reviews suggest that certain classes might lean more towards a demonstration format, where participants primarily observe the chef. This distinction is crucial for potential visitors to manage their expectations and ensure the class aligns with their desire for active participation. The overall goal is to provide an enjoyable and educational culinary journey, whether you're actively cooking or learning through observation.
Beyond the kitchen, some classes may incorporate elements like market tours, offering a glimpse into local produce and culinary traditions. This adds another layer to the experience, connecting participants with the source of their ingredients. The social aspect is also a significant draw, with many visitors attending as groups or celebrating special occasions, making it a memorable event for all involved.
Navigating Culinary Class Expectations
For instance, some guests have reported that classes advertised as being in English were not conducted as such, leading to confusion and a diminished learning experience. It is therefore highly recommended to confirm the language of instruction directly with Chefparade when booking, especially if English is your primary language. Similarly, understanding whether a class is a 'hands-on' session where you cook yourself, or a 'demonstration' where you watch a chef, is key to avoiding disappointment. This clarity ensures you book a class that matches your desired level of participation and learning style.
Despite these potential discrepancies, many visitors have had overwhelmingly positive experiences, highlighting the delicious outcomes and the fun atmosphere. The key to a successful visit often lies in clear communication with the school beforehand and managing expectations based on the specific class format.
Exploring Global Flavors in Prague
Beyond the savory, Chefparade also caters to those with a sweet tooth. Classes focusing on delicate French macarons are a popular choice, providing an opportunity to learn the precise techniques required for these notoriously tricky pastries. Other international cuisines, such as Indian kitchen specialties, are also frequently offered, showcasing the school's commitment to diverse culinary education.
These specialty classes are a fantastic way to expand your cooking repertoire and experience different culinary traditions. They are often highlighted by participants as a fun and delicious way to spend an afternoon or evening, making Chefparade a versatile destination for food enthusiasts of all kinds.
