Reviews Summary

Protaras Windmills is praised for its fantastic location, proximity to the beach, and pleasant pool area. However, many guests have expressed disappointment with the dated and basic condition of the rooms, citing issues like mold and poor maintenance. The on-site bar also receives criticism for the quality of its drinks.

"Good hotel for a good price in great location close to the beach and shops/restaurants. It’s like a little village with a church, restaurant and pool as well. It’s nothing fancy or luxurious but it is decent for the price you pay, our only issue was mold in the bathroom and low water pressure in the shower but apart from that we were happy, nice spacious room with little kitchenette and balcony. Everything was nice and clean. Would definitely recommend and possibly return in the future."

"Somehow every single drink we ordered was horrible, Guinness, mojito, Stella

Mojito tasted like yoghurt, Guinness had no head, Stella was flat. Wouldn’t recommend for beers. Given the state of the pints imagine the rooms, or the kitchen, also aren’t too well kept"

Vinnie Chandra

"Dirty, horrible rooms stuck in the 1980s with appliances, furniture and fixtures still from that time, broken, unmaintained, broken air conditioning [that they charge €10 per day], dirty bath, sticky balcony furniture. Male staff barging into your room while you're undressing to fix broken a/c and refusing to leave. I was blamed for not booking a 'superior' room not offered a new room, however, by this time we were not going to stay there. Cannot believe Jet2 or OtB recommend this place. Its a real hovel. DO NOT BOOK HERE!"

Understanding the Room Experience

Protaras Windmills offers apartment-style accommodation, but guest experiences with the rooms vary significantly. While some found them spacious and clean with a kitchenette and balcony, a recurring theme in reviews points to dated decor, potential maintenance issues, and a basic standard. Common complaints include mold in bathrooms, low water pressure, and older appliances. Some guests even reported encountering pests or electrical issues. It's important to manage expectations, as the 'basic' nature of some rooms is a frequent point of discussion among travelers.

For those prioritizing modern amenities and luxury, this might not be the ideal choice. However, if you're looking for a budget-friendly option in a prime location and are prepared for a simpler living space, the rooms might suffice. Some reviewers suggest that booking a 'superior' room could offer a better experience, though this should be confirmed directly with the hotel. The presence of a kitchenette is a plus for those who prefer to prepare some of their own meals.

Travelers often highlight the contrast between the potentially less-than-ideal rooms and the pleasantness of the hotel's grounds and location. This suggests that while the internal living spaces might be a drawback for some, the overall atmosphere and convenience can still lead to a satisfactory stay for certain types of travelers.

Dining and Drinks: A Mixed Bag

The on-site restaurant and bar at Protaras Windmills present a mixed picture for visitors. The general ambiance of the dining and bar areas is often described positively, contributing to the 'village' feel of the complex. However, the quality of the beverages served has been a consistent point of criticism across multiple reviews.

Guests have reported that drinks like Guinness lacked proper head, Stella was flat, and even cocktails such as mojitos were unappetizing, with one reviewer likening the taste to yogurt. This suggests a potential lack of attention to detail or quality control in the bar service. While the food might be considered acceptable by some, the disappointing drink experiences often overshadow the positive aspects of the dining facilities.

Given these consistent remarks, it's advisable for visitors to temper their expectations regarding the on-site bar and restaurant. Exploring the numerous local tavernas and bars in Protaras, which are easily accessible from the hotel, is often recommended as a more reliable way to enjoy quality food and drinks during your stay.
