What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Blue World Institute for its educational value and dedication to marine conservation, with many highlighting the thrilling dolphin watching tours. However, some reviews mention that tour experiences can be impacted by weather conditions and a desire for more consistent commentary from the crew.
"Overall, I recommend the tour, but I suggest planning to stay on the island for an extra 2-3 days. This way, if you don’t see any dolphins, you’ll have time to take advantage of the free return trip offer.
The dolphin watching tour had potential, but there were a few aspects that left us disappointed. For the first hour, we encountered quite rough waves, about 2 meters high, which made some passengers, including my partner, quite anxious. A few comforting words from the skipper would have been appreciated, though I understand that’s a personal preference.
I also believe that the weather conditions weren’t ideal for dolphin spotting. The rough seas likely made it difficult, and in hindsight, the skipper and crew should have considered calling off the trip and rescheduling. I’m not an expert, but after seeing photos from other reviews and talking to our AirBnB host, it seems clear that calmer seas are necessary for a better experience.
Additionally, the communication after the tour was lacking. We weren’t clearly informed about the option for a free trip if no dolphins were spotted, which was only mentioned discreetly.
During the tour, the commentary was minimal—after the initial presentation, it felt like we were just on a three-hour boat ride, staring at the ocean in silence. Some ongoing information about the dolphins, the environment, and the areas we were navigating would have made the experience more engaging, even if we didn’t see any dolphins!
Overall, the trip could have been better with more communication and interaction from the crew."
