What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently surprised by the quality and breadth of the art at the Museum of Fine Arts Split, especially given its location. The well-organized collections, spanning from medieval to contemporary works, are highly praised, as is the serene atmosphere of the beautifully restored former hospital building. Some wish for more detailed explanations of artistic development.
"I didn’t have high expectations and was amazed by exhibition. It’s very good - to my taste, good selection of art prices, very-well organized structure of the museum and amount of works. Just perfect!"
Olga Chemiya
"I really enjoyed my visit here, it was so quiet, just two others visitors in the galleries. Organised around a central open quadrangle I think there is something for everyone here. The museum exhibits works from the 14th Century onwards, hence allows you to see how styles have changed through the centuries from medieval paintings and wood carvings through to modern abstract art.
There is also a small display of contemporary video art which I think will expand in the future and some 70's black & white photos. I've included a representative cross section of all the works on display with my review."
Miles Macdonald
"I was really surprised by how good both the main collection and temporary exhibitions were, especially considering it’s a museum in a small city and definitely not the main attraction here"
