"There are some interesting fragments left on this site of what once, in the first century CE, must have been an impressive temple complex close by the sea. Nearby are the remains of what once was the temple of Neptune

It's open all year 24/7"

Seimen Burum

"My playground and fav spot in old town from the 90s. As always, I jumped over the wall you see to get to the outer walls.
But Hey!
Valamar, the company who God knows how bought the Villa Polesini, cut down 300-400 old pines, devasted the whole coast area north of the old town, has rules. They owe the city walls and nobody can sit there and enjoy the sunset.
Good job, grad Poreč and Republika Hrvatska.
Good job!"

"Woth to see temple ruins."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Grandeur of Paestum

Paestum, originally known as Poseidonia, was a significant Greek city founded in the 7th century BCE. Its remarkably well-preserved Doric temples stand as a testament to the architectural prowess of the ancient Greeks. The Temple of Neptune, the Temple of Hera (Hera II), and the Temple of Athena are the crown jewels of this UNESCO World Heritage site, each offering a unique glimpse into classical design and religious practices. Instagram+1

Exploring Paestum is like stepping back in time. The sheer scale of these structures, built with massive stone blocks, is awe-inspiring. Visitors often describe a profound sense of connection to history as they wander among the ruins, imagining life in this ancient metropolis. The surrounding landscape, with its olive groves and distant mountains, adds to the evocative atmosphere. Instagram

Beyond the temples, the site also includes the remains of the city walls, an amphitheater, and a necropolis. The on-site museum houses a fascinating collection of artifacts unearthed from the ruins, including intricate tomb paintings that offer insights into the funerary customs of the time. Instagram

Navigating the Archaeological Park

The Archaeological Park of Paestum is quite extensive, and comfortable footwear is non-negotiable. Visitors are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes as the terrain can be uneven, with gravel paths and ancient stone surfaces. Reddit The park is best explored on foot, allowing you to fully appreciate the scale and detail of the ruins. Consider bringing a hat and sunscreen, especially during the summer months, as shade can be limited in certain areas. TikTok

While the main temples are the primary draw, don't overlook the other sections of the park. The ancient city walls provide a sense of the city's defensive structure, and the Roman amphitheater offers a glimpse into public life. The museum is also a must-visit to see the artifacts up close, including the famous Tomb of the Diver fresco. Instagram

To make the most of your visit, allocate at least 2-3 hours. Many visitors recommend arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the midday heat and the largest tour groups, ensuring a more peaceful and immersive experience. Reddit
