Reviews Summary

Krka National Park is praised for its stunning waterfalls and natural beauty, offering a memorable day out with included boat trips. However, some visitors feel it's overpriced, citing high entrance fees and expensive refreshments, leading to a 'tourist trap' sentiment for a few. Reddit

"Beautiful falls and a good day out. Take lots of water if it is hot. Price is reasonable, you get a boat trip included, and you can use it at multiple entry points if you want to go to another part of the park. We just drove there on the day and had no problem getting a ticket or free parking."

Richard

"This national park is incredible. The walk isn't as long as it feels on the map. We got the boat to Skravin as well and the view on the boat journey was amazing. Definitely worth a visit."

Hannah

"As most other people mention, it's a must see. Best park in a huge, free dedicated car park in Lozovac (south end of the lakes). Buy entry tickets there, check prices on the official website as they differ per season. From there they offer a free bus to Skradinski Buk which is the actual starting point for most activities, or you can take a 850m walk (10-15 mins) there on a steep downhill path. Even if you walk down you may want to take the bus on the way back up later as it is steep. From Skradinski Buk you can take a circa 2km circular walk around the tuffs and waterfalls, highly recommended. Mostly on boardwalks and flat surfaces. You can also take a boat to the cloisters on the lake and the north Roski Slap, do that if you can (only way to visit the cloister). If the boats do not operate then you can drive to Roski Slap, about 40mins. There is a very small car park there so can be super tight in the season. Go on another short circular walk there (45-60 mins), see the watermills and the cave if open, up about 600 steep steps from the circular walk. Staff is very helpfull all around thr place. All in all a great 1 day trip."

Navigating Krka: Entrances, Parking, and Transport

Krka National Park offers multiple entry points, but the Lozovac entrance is the most popular and convenient due to its free parking and direct access to the park's shuttle bus. This bus service is included with your entrance ticket and takes you directly to the Skradinski Buk waterfall area, the park's main attraction. Alternatively, from Lozovac, you can opt for a scenic 850-meter walk downhill to Skradinski Buk, which takes about 10-15 minutes. Be aware that this path is steep, so you might prefer to take the bus back up. Reddit

Other entrances, like Roški Slap, are accessible by car, but parking here can be very tight, especially during peak season. If you plan to visit the island of Visovac and its monastery, a boat trip is the primary way to get there, often included with your park ticket. If the boats aren't running, you can drive to Roški Slap, but it's a significant detour. Reddit

For those relying on public transport, buses from Šibenik are a viable option, connecting you to the park's vicinity. It's always wise to check the official Krka National Park website for the most current information on transport services and operating hours, as these can change seasonally. Reddit

The Krka Experience: Waterfalls, Walks, and Wildlife

The star attraction of Krka National Park is undoubtedly Skradinski Buk, a magnificent series of travertine waterfalls and pools. A network of boardwalks and paths allows visitors to wander through this stunning natural spectacle, offering incredible views and photo opportunities. The trails are generally well-maintained and relatively flat around Skradinski Buk, making them accessible for most visitors. Reddit

Beyond the main falls, the park offers opportunities for longer walks and exploration. A boat trip on the Krka River provides a different perspective, showcasing the lush riverbanks and leading to the serene Visovac Island, home to a Franciscan monastery. The Roški Slap waterfall, located further upstream, offers a more tranquil experience with charming watermills and a small cave. Reddit

While the park is renowned for its waterfalls, keep an eye out for the diverse flora and fauna. The Krka River is home to numerous fish species, and the surrounding forests support a variety of birdlife. Remember to stay on marked paths to protect the delicate ecosystem and ensure a safe visit. Reddit

Budgeting for Krka: Costs and Smart Savings

Visiting Krka National Park can be a significant expense, particularly during the peak summer season. The entrance fee can be as high as 40 euros per person, which many visitors find steep for the amenities offered. This high cost, combined with inflated prices for essentials like water (around 5 euros per bottle), has led some to describe the park as a 'tourist trap'. Reddit

To mitigate these costs, strategic planning is key. Parking at the Lozovac entrance is free, which is a considerable saving compared to paid parking at other locations. Bringing your own food and plenty of water is highly recommended to avoid the overpriced kiosks and restaurants within the park. Reddit

Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or autumn) when entrance fees are typically lower, and the crowds are less intense. While the park is undeniably beautiful, being mindful of these expenses and planning accordingly will help ensure a more enjoyable and budget-friendly experience. Reddit
