The historical aspects of the fortress are also appreciated, though some find the admission fee a bit high. The walk up is generally considered enjoyable and worthwhile, with options to enjoy the scenery even without entering.
"It's a long walk up many flights of stairs through the old town followed by an even longer walk up a winding path through the woods to reach the fortress - there are benches here and there to sit on for a rest. If you don't go inside (pay to go in), there isn't much to do apart from admire the view down to Hvar harbour. Top tip: the view is better from the path about one-third of the way down."

"The view over Hvar from the fortress is beautiful, but getting there takes a bit of effort. My partner and I went before dinner, all dressed up—not the best idea, since the walk up is longer than it looks. Around 8 pm the small shop for drinks and snacks was already closed, and in the summer heat we ended up sweating quite a bit. I’d recommend visiting in the morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler.
At the top, there’s a €10 entrance fee. Inside you’ll find a small prison with narrow stairs and low ceilings, but the real highlight is the stunning panorama of Hvar harbor. Worth it for the view, but plan your timing wisely."

"A must visit when in Hvar. Make sure you wear comfy walking shoes. The pathway is fairly flat with small pebbles. If you get tired going part way up, there are seats along the way plus there’s a small store to buy water and cold drinks.
From the top, the view of Hvar is spectacular as you can see the islands nearby. At the top, there’s a dining area for drinks and food plus a couple of gift stores with handmade crafts. There’s even a prison.
The admission to the fortress is 10 Euros for adults. If it’s not within your budget, there are a few photo opts part way up.
I would have loved seeing the sunset here."
