What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Banje Beach offers a stunning location with iconic views of Dubrovnik's Old Town, complemented by clear Adriatic waters. Visitors praise the friendly staff and the convenience of the beach club's table service for drinks and lunch. However, some find the beach club's prices high and the dinner quality inconsistent.
"Loved Banje Beach! Cozy atmosphere , beautiful sea view over the islands and the picturesque old town which was also a short walking distance from the beach. Service was amazing, The staff in both the restaurant and on the beach is super friendly and helpful. The restaurant offers amazing food and refreshing drinks with table service by the sunbeds. Small pebble stones and a little plateau from where you can jump makes the beach a perfect place for all ages (we were there with 2 small kids). We enjoyed it several days in a row and can’t wait to come back🏖️☀️❤️"

"Lovely beach club with wonderful, friendly staff. Beds are so comfy and luxurious. Water is crystal clear and refreshing after laying in the sun. Ice cold drinks served straight to your bed. We are on a cruise and came here for the day whilst docked in Dubrovnik. Incredible views from water and calm, peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely recommend and would come back again! Thank you Banje beach club :)"

"We went there for lunch. It was really perfect and you can enjoy your cocktails and you can swim at the same time and also we came back the second day to enjoy the dinner, but really didn’t like it. The food was really bad. The octopus was burnt and the tuna was overcooked which wasn’t delicious at all so apparently it is not the same chef. The service was OK so I really recommend this place for lunchtime not dinner."

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
Banje Beach is conveniently located just outside the Ploče Gate of Dubrovnik's Old Town. It's a short, scenic walk (about 5-10 minutes) downhill from the gate, offering stunning views as you approach. You can easily find it by following the signs or simply heading towards the sea with the Old Town walls in sight.
Parking directly at Banje Beach is very limited. The best option is to park in the public garage near the Old Town (e.g., the Pile Gate garage) and then walk to the beach. This is a common strategy for visitors exploring Dubrovnik.
While walking is the most common and recommended way, local buses do stop near the Old Town, and from there, it's a short walk to the beach. However, given its proximity, walking is usually the most efficient method.
The walk from the Old Town is downhill, which is manageable. However, the beach itself is pebbly, and the beach club has steps. Access to the water might be challenging for those with significant mobility issues.
If you're arriving by cruise ship, you can take a taxi directly to the Ploče Gate entrance of the Old Town, which is a short walk from Banje Beach. Alternatively, you can take a local bus from the port area towards the Old Town.

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
However, be mindful of the potential crowds and the cost of the beach club. If you're on a tighter budget, consider visiting early in the morning when it's less crowded and you can find a good spot on the public beach. The proximity to the Old Town also makes it easy to combine a beach visit with sightseeing.
💰 Budget Travelers
To save money on food and drinks, consider packing some snacks and water, or dining at more affordable eateries in the Old Town before or after your beach visit. The key is to focus on the natural beauty and the free access to the sea rather than the club's premium services.
🥂 Couples & Luxury Seekers
Consider visiting in the late afternoon or evening to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and DJ sets. The stunning backdrop of the illuminated Old Town at night adds an extra layer of magic to the experience.

The Banje Beach Club Experience
While the club provides a premium experience, it comes at a cost. Renting a sunbed and umbrella set can be a significant expense, leading some visitors to opt for the public beach area. However, for those seeking convenience and a touch of luxury, the service and amenities are often considered worth the price. The club's prime location ensures that guests are always treated to spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea and the ancient city walls.
It's worth noting that while the club is a focal point, the beach itself is pebbly, not sandy. This means comfortable footwear or water shoes might be beneficial. The club's offerings, from the comfortable loungers to the well-mixed cocktails, aim to provide a memorable and relaxing day by the sea, making it a popular choice for day-trippers and locals alike.
Navigating Banje Beach: Public Access vs. Club
However, the public area can become quite crowded, especially during peak season. The beach club, while pricier, offers dedicated space with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas, along with direct service. This distinction is important for visitors to understand when planning their visit, as the experience and cost can vary significantly depending on which part of Banje Beach they choose to utilize.
Reddit discussions highlight that the beach is technically public property, and the club essentially rents out a portion of it. This means that even if you're not using the club's facilities, you can still access the water and the shoreline. The key is to be aware of the space limitations and the general vibe of each area to make the best choice for your visit.
Culinary Delights and Disappointments at Banje Beach
Conversely, some patrons have expressed disappointment with the dinner service and food quality. Reports of burnt octopus and overcooked tuna suggest that the culinary standards might not be consistent throughout the day, or perhaps different chefs manage different shifts. This has led to recommendations to prioritize lunch or drinks over a full dinner experience at the club.
Despite these mixed reviews for dinner, the overall consensus is that the beach club offers a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying beverages and light fare with a view. The convenience of having food and drinks served directly to your sunbed adds to the appeal, especially during a leisurely day by the sea.
