What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking panoramic views from Starigrad Fortress, calling the hike challenging but incredibly rewarding. The historical aspect and the sunset vistas are major highlights, though the strenuous nature of the climb and the cash-only entry are points to note.
"Came down here on the local bus. Download the Promet App. You can buy tickets, find routes, and track the bus in it. Walked up the ‘easy’ route to the fortress. You’ll definitely want good shoes and water. Takes about 45 minutes to get up. The start is pretty well marked and there are trail markers the whole way so easy to follow the path. You pay 3.5€ for an adult (kids free), cash only, to get in. Not a lot in the fort but we found it a nice place to sit and eat lunch and admire the view. The back of your ticket tells a little of the history of the place as there isn’t much inside. Walk down with the view was good and we jumped in the sea afterwards to cool off. Honestly I found the whole experience better than the Klis Fortress!"

"With a heavy backpack and a freshly bought coffee from Kala, I decided on the spot to climb up to the fortress of Omiš, without having any idea of what was waiting for me.
The sign said 45 minutes, though I managed to reach the top in just half an hour. What it didn’t mention was that the path was actually a real trekking trail.
There was Jasminka, collecting tickets with a smile and chatting as if she had known you forever.
The climb was tough, yes, but every view along the way felt like a reward—and once I reached the top, I realized that this impulsive decision had been the best one of the day."

"The views are beautiful, and it's a fantastic place for a great adventure. Remember to bring plenty of water and wear good shoes, preferably hiking boots. The entrance cost €3.50 per person, and the kids are free. You can buy soft drinks at the fortress."

The Trek to Starigrad Fortress: What to Expect
There are different routes to consider. Some suggest taking a more challenging path up and a 'gentler' one down, but even the 'easy' route is not a simple walking trail and is not suited for those with mobility issues or very young children. The journey itself is as much a highlight as the destination, with every viewpoint offering a sense of accomplishment and a glimpse of the stunning Dalmatian coast.
Upon reaching the fortress, you'll pay a small entrance fee (around €3.50, cash only) to explore the historical ruins. Visitors can learn a bit about its history from the back of their entrance tickets, which often provide a brief overview of its past. The very existence of the fortress on such a commanding height speaks volumes about the challenges and conflicts faced by the people of Omiš centuries ago.
