Reviews Summary

Playa Quesera is lauded as one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, praised for its pristine white sand and clear turquoise waters. Visitors appreciate the abundant wildlife and the unique opportunity to witness bioluminescence. However, the lack of facilities and the need for advance booking are important considerations.

"Small beach with white sand. Can be accessed from Curu by approximately 5km trail or by boat. We visited it as part of a horseback riding tour from Curu."

Dmitri R

"This is a small white-sanded beach. It's very clean and you can see hermit crabs and spainy-tailed lizards everywhere. The beach doesn't have any kind of facilities. There is also a security guard in charge of keep an eye on everything. If you are coming here on a boat you must first check-in with the ranger station in order to stay at the beach. There is a really warm water, a lot of sharp coral reef skeleton on the botton that's why you should wear some swimming shoes.
Don't miss the oportunity to experience the bioluminescence on the water at night, preferably during a dark night of new moon."

Kevin Quirós

"Blue Turkish water. The view is stunning. You can either walk , take a boat or Kayak to get here."

The Magic of Bioluminescence

One of the most enchanting experiences at Playa Quesera is witnessing the bioluminescence in its waters. This natural phenomenon occurs when microscopic marine organisms emit light. For the best chance to see it, plan your visit during a dark night, ideally coinciding with a new moon. The absence of moonlight allows the faint glow of the plankton to be more visible, creating a truly magical spectacle. Reddit

Travelers describe the experience as surreal, with the water lighting up with every movement. It's a unique opportunity to connect with nature in a profound way. While not guaranteed every night, the conditions at Playa Quesera are favorable for this natural light show. Reddit

To maximize your chances, consider booking a night tour or staying overnight nearby if possible. The reflection of the stars on the water, combined with the bioluminescent glow, creates an unforgettable scene. Instagram
