"We stopped here for some ice cream and cheese. It was really good. They have tons of ice cream flavors and many cheeses. Unfortunately no factory tours. The staff was very friendly and they spoke english. If you have time, you should visit."

"Fuera de Monteverde!!! Ustedes no nos representan. Out of Montevede you don't represent MONTEVERDE!!
For all tourists reading this review, please don't support this company!!
It used to be a local cheese factory with beautiful history, decades ago, but it was bought by an international company and they lowered the quality and became commercialised, you might as well by icream from from the convince store.
We locals don't want them here anymore because they don't represent us, the contaminate the environment and employees are unhappy here."

"Lovely icecream.
Just avoid the mistake I made - go for one scoop instead of 2 or take the cup. The waffle-cone is small and ice starts to melt :D"

The Evolution of Monteverde Cheese House
While the factory tours are no longer available, the focus has shifted to its popular ice cream shop and the sale of local dairy products. This transition means visitors can still enjoy a sweet treat and sample local cheeses, but the experience is different from what it once was.
Despite the changes, the friendly staff who speak English and the delicious gelato continue to draw visitors. It remains a convenient and enjoyable stop for those traveling through the Monteverde region, offering a taste of local dairy, even if it's not the exact experience some long-time residents remember.
Gelato Delights and Cone Conundrums
However, a common tip from visitors is to be mindful of the cone versus cup choice. The waffle cones are described as small, and the ice cream can melt quite quickly, especially in the Costa Rican climate. Many suggest opting for a cup to fully savor the flavors without the rush.
Enjoying your gelato at the available outdoor seating adds to the relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to pause and refresh during your travels.
