What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for Las Catalinas Beach Club are mixed, with many praising its luxurious amenities, attentive service, and family-friendly atmosphere. However, some visitors find it overly commercialized and expensive, with occasional issues regarding access and private event closures.
"Great day at the Beach Club with our three kids (4, 6, and 8). We’re staying at Las Catalinas, so the rate is quite low, comes with a $15 food credit per guest, and the kids got in free. Pool amenities are top notch, service was perfect, and lunch was high quality (including the kids’ cheeseburgers). Ended up staying from 9 am until 4 pm because the kids were entertained the whole day with a couple trips down to the ocean mixed into the day.
Some of the negative reviews here are head scratching. Yes, there are two entrances. You have to use the one at the top of the club (look for a white lighthouse type office for checkin). Yes, they occasionally have private events that close the club. No, not a single person on the staff was rude (in fact, they were amazingly attentive and helpful, especially with the kids).
We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Las Catalinas."

"Reviews were mixed but our group decided to keep an open mind. This is not a destination for guests with mobility issues as there is no on site parking. After a steep and hot walk from the car we arrived at a locked gate. The sign said push but none of us had success opening it. The entrance is quite a distance from the service area and, naturally, no came to offer assistance.
Everything was as it should be and we found another lovely place at the top of the hill. Slightly more expensive but well worth it!"
Adrie
"Loved the beach club- really friendly staff, provided everything we needed- beach chairs, tables, umbrellas, towels, infinity pools overlooking the the ocean and easy trails to pop down to Dante beach. Plus tasty drinks and food. Las Catalinas is basically a luxury resort so you pay for the experience but if you want to treat yourself to a super relaxing day it’s worth it. As travelers visiting we really enjoyed ending our trip here! Muchos gracias!"

The Las Catalinas Experience
The Beach Club serves as a central hub for relaxation and recreation. It offers a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere, perfect for a day of pampering. Beyond the pools and beach access, the community boasts an extensive network of hiking and biking trails that wind through the surrounding hills and coastline, offering breathtaking views and opportunities for adventure.
Travelers often highlight the attentive service and the feeling of exclusivity. However, some reviews mention that it can feel like an 'American country club' and may not appeal to those seeking a more 'authentic' Costa Rican experience. Despite this, for those looking for a high-end, relaxing getaway with stunning scenery and excellent amenities, Las Catalinas delivers.
Diving and Water Activities
At Las Catalinas Beach Club, guests can enjoy direct access to Dante Beach, which is suitable for swimming and sunbathing. The clear waters are perfect for a refreshing dip. While not a primary diving destination itself, the resort can facilitate arrangements for water sports and excursions, including kayaking and paddleboarding, allowing you to explore the coastline.
For serious divers, it's important to distinguish between Las Catalinas (the resort town) and the Catalina Islands (the diving hotspot). If diving is your main goal, you'll want to book tours specifically to the Catalina Islands, which are typically accessed from towns like Tamarindo or Playas del Coco.
