"Albergue Heliconias Review – Bijagua, Costa Rica
Albergue Heliconias is a true gem in the Bijagua area—authentic, peaceful, and surrounded by some of the richest nature in the region. What makes it unforgettable is not only the warm, family-run hospitality but the environment they’ve created around the lodge.
My favorite part of the entire stay was breakfast. They have a large garden and multiple feeders set up right next to the dining area, and the amount of wildlife activity is astounding. You’re not just seeing birds—you’re seeing an incredible variety of species. Toucans, hummingbirds, tanagers, woodpeckers, even the occasional motmot… all flying in and out while you sip your morning coffee. Add the butterflies drifting through the garden, and breakfast becomes a full-on nature experience.
The cabins are simple, clean, and comfortable, but the real highlight is that connection to the forest. You hear howler monkeys in the morning, spot birds from your porch, and can explore trails right on the property. The owners clearly care deeply about preserving the land and the wildlife that lives on it.
If you’re visiting Rio Celeste or exploring the Tenorio mountains, this is the perfect base. It’s quiet, local, full of charm, and ideal for anyone who loves wildlife, photography, or staying close to nature.
Albergue Heliconias isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a place where nature is part of the experience from sunrise to sunset."

"My family and I stayed here for two nights and I loved it! The bungalows were adorable and spacious, extremely comfortable and private. Mine had a hammock which I spent a lot of my day in, watching the rainy view (which is incredible). The staff at the front desk are super sweet, doing way more for my family than they could have as we were a bit sick and needed extra patience and support. They boiled an extra thermos of water for us, accommodated our breakfast requests (all their breakfasts are beautifully plated and delicious), and helped us book a guide for a night walk, where we saw three different types of snakes and countless other animals. The hanging bridges were beautiful and really fun, with the trail being well-manicured. We were the only guests, being there during a shoulder season, but I highly recommend that more people go to this lodge! :)"
