What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Puracé National Natural Park for its incredible natural beauty, offering a rejuvenating experience surrounded by calm and energy. Highlights include the stunning hot springs and the challenging volcano hike. However, access can be difficult, with unreliable public transport and rough roads, and some visitors found the mandatory guide unnecessary.
"I went with my couple some weeks ago. The trip was worth it, the fact of being surrounded by such an incredible nature and calmness during the whole day made us feel full of energy, and knowledge, because people there are very keen to share their knowledge about the mountain and their lives.
At the park entrance, at the front desk, a girl mentioned that it is mandatory to make the trip with a guide. Actually, I didn't find it useful. There is a long track, 15 km to termales de San Juan which takes 4 - 5 hours on foot. It is better to go by bus and get off there. If you go early in the morning, you have better chances to discover this magical place, you walk around the termales de San Juan, and after that activity you can descend on foot to the park's entrance. Along the way you'll discover some other spots, which are breathtaking, like: cascad de los enamorados, la laguna de las dantas, and some others.
The walking tour might take 6 hours, so you can arrive in Popayan in the afternoon."

"You won't regret to visit this amazing national park. The volcano is just 1 of the many touristic places there."
David Ortiz
"I came early in morning but the trail was closed. Nobody in the hut rangers. I took the bus from Popayan terminal bus and paid 20,000 for one way. The driver dropped me off at the intersection towards the Nature Reserve in El Cruce de la mina point and I walked 2 km uphill to the entrance and it was closed (Pilimbala point). Very disappointing because all the websites say it is open. Really bad bus company..they promised to leave at eight in the morning but left at 45 minutes later..."
