Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking panoramic views of Medellín and the Aburrá Valley, often calling it a highlight of their trip. The hike, especially via 'el Camino Real,' is appreciated for its scenic beauty and the sense of accomplishment. However, some recent reviews mention safety concerns, including instances of robbery at knife-point, urging caution, especially during less crowded times.

"Had an amazing time and beautiful view unlike any other. Highlight of visit to Medellin, and the nature itself on the way up is beautiful. Park infrastructure is level of Western Europe, with well maintained paths.

We hiked up el Camino Real, the pre Hispanic dirt path that winds up the stairs, which was beautiful and clean and not too challenging, took about an hour. We walked down the stairs, which is more direct.

Our experience: We were two very American looking non-intimidating white guys. We felt safe the whole time, and everyone was very nice to us and helped us with directions.

The (very steep) walk from the metro cable to the entrance is a very busy walk full of businesses and regular people coming and going to school/work. I cannot imagine someone feeling like it was a bad area unless they had never been to Latin America before.

However, The park on a cloudy weekday was mostly empty , so although we felt safe and everyone who helped us with directions was nice, we were alone most of the time. Still, I would highly highly highly recommended to anyone visiting."

"Great views of the Aburra Valley and the city of Medellin. Great way to sense this city of contrasts; start on the metro, hop on the tramway and take a ride on Metrocable up to the point where you’ll start a steep hike all the way up to cerro pan de azúcar. Very well kept trail, good for all ages. If you want to go hard at it do a fast climb or take your time and enjoy the view. Once up there, treat yourself to a homemade mango or coconut icecream and get your energy for the way down, as demanding as the climb. Definitely worth it. The views and the experience of walking through the heart of a local barrio."
