What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Iglesia de la Candelaria for its stunning Spanish colonial architecture, particularly its well-preserved frescos and altars. It's seen as a beautiful and reverent place of worship. However, some note that the church can close after morning mass, limiting afternoon visits, and express disappointment over external graffiti.
"This church is a perfect example of Spanish colonial religious architecture. Its location is very convenient, situated in a safe part of the historical district and close to the museum block"
Andres Vargas Higuera
"A beautiful Church that gives glory to God; with amazing frescos, altars, side-altars, and with opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration. There are only two negative things. The first is that it seems that outside of mass there isn't much of an opportunity to just stick around and admire the beauty, as they close the church after morning mass. This is most likely due to the lamentable security situation than any wish to keep the faithful away from the Lord in the Tabernacle. The second is that there is so much graffiti with vulgarities on the side of the church. An absolute disgrace that the locals do not value what an architectural, cultural, and religious gem they have in the city. Hopefully, the city will help out in repainting the side of the church. Other than that I cannot recommend this church enough to visit. The priests are kind and reverent, and the man who takes care of the building is a man with a genuine love for the Lord."
