Reviews Summary

The Grand Bazaar is a vibrant and iconic Urumqi landmark, praised for its lively atmosphere, cultural displays, and diverse shopping opportunities. Visitors enjoy the Uighur performances and local food stalls. However, the experience can be overwhelming due to heavy crowds and tight security, and some find the merchandise overly tourist-oriented.

"The Grand Bazaar is one of the most visited and iconic spots in Urumqi, offering a glimpse into local culture, crafts, and snacks. However, be prepared for heavy crowds—especially during peak seasons—which can make the experience feel overwhelming.

While it's a must-see for first-time visitors, the atmosphere and touristy feel might not be for everyone. Worth a short stop, but not necessarily a place to linger."

"Urumqi International Bazar - A nice mix of shops and Muslim quarter. The musk had been transferred to shops."

"The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar Xinjiang is the largest bazaar in the world by scale, combining Islamic culture, architecture, ethnic commerce, tourism and entertainment.
It is also one of the most famous landmarks in Xinjiang attracting not only locals but tourists from all over the world.

Walking into the Grand Bazaar, we can see a round tower about 100meters high in the center of the square, our guide told us this is the most famous attraction in Grand Bazaar and named the Silk Road Sightseeing Tower.
We did not make it inside to see though.

The Bazaar occupies an area of 4,000 m2 not only has the sightseeing tower, but also an open mosque, an opera theatre and a food court.

Uighur-style pedestrian streets are distributed on both sides of the square. Security is very tight, when we walk out of one lane , we need to go through the scanning checks again before going back into the Bazaar.

A variety of delicious Xinjiang dried fruits are sold here, as well as some ethnic musical instruments, handicrafts and painted tambourine, lots of jades and jewelleries etc. You can almost buy most things there, however not many bargains.

The local Uighurs play their folk music using the Lutar & tamborines in front of the shops, as well as their passionate dance performances. It is full of activities, loads of food & nitty gritty but can also taste the Xinjiang specialities while watching their show.

Plenty of food /fruit juices stall, we sat down to enjoy their local noodle satay & lamb rib pie naan. It is a great sight for photography opportunities .

Well , despite the criticism from the West Bloc, through the tour of this Bazaar, to us, Xinjiang proves it's worth to the world again by presenting facts and truthfulness, it will eventually bust all lies.

A must see in Urumqi whenever you visit Xinjiang!!!!"
