"Of all the different water towns, Luzhi was my least favorite. In contrast to Tongli, Zhouzhuang, Jinxi, Xitang or Zujiajiao, it is a bit small. The plus point is that there are hardly any tourists here. Of course it's beautiful here and I can recommend it to everyone, but if you don't have much time but still want to see 2 or 3 of the famous water towns, then I definitely recommend others. That's why Luzhi is free!"

"Among the pristine water towns around Suzhou are the well-preserved ancient enclaves of Luzhi and Jinxi. Noted for the characteristics typical of Chinese water cities, Luzhi and Jinxi are neighboring suburbs just east of Suzhou proper.
It is a city on the water with a history of more than 2500 years, built in the classic style of all the water villages south of the Yangtze River, with canals crossed by zigzag bridges, traditional homes and buildings and narrow, characteristic alleys.
We got lost walking through the thousand alleys lined with canals that run the length and breadth of it. Local craft businesses, stalls cooking foods unlikely for us Europeans, intense aromas and smells, truly very suggestive."
