What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Nantou Ancient City is a highly praised destination, lauded for its successful fusion of ancient heritage with modern urban life. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved historical sites, the vibrant atmosphere created by trendy cafes and shops, and the engaging mini-museums. While it can get crowded, the overall experience is described as charming and a refreshing escape from Shenzhen's typical cityscape.
"I didn't have too much expectation when I planned to come here. After all, typical museum could be boring and monotonous showing artifacts hundreds of years old. I was wrong!
Yes, it does have historical spots scattered around the "museum" (marked in grey color on the tour map), it also has numerous chic and modern shops blended in. A 3-storey Starbucks which offers typical coffee and snacks is located at the heart of these busy allies. Almost forgot, modern and hygienic public toilets are relatively abundant. Looks like the local authority has once again done a good job in rebuilding and revitalising a historic site and turning it into a golden egg laying goose."

"Nantou Ancient City is a fascinating spot where history meets modernity. Walking through its narrow alleys, you get a real sense of the area’s rich heritage and culture. There are old temples, traditional buildings, and some well-preserved architecture that date back centuries, offering a refreshing contrast to Shenzhen’s fast-paced, urban vibe.
The streets are lined with small shops, cafes, and food stalls, making it a great place to explore local cuisine and pick up unique souvenirs. However, it can get a bit crowded, especially on weekends, and some parts could use a little maintenance. Despite that, Nantou Ancient City is a charming place to soak in Shenzhen’s history, enjoy some street food, and escape the modern hustle for a while. A must-visit for anyone interested in Chinese culture and history!"
