Timing is Everything

To avoid the biggest crowds and potentially fog, aim for weekdays outside of peak tourist seasons. Sunset offers a magical transition from day to night, but can be busier. Check the weather forecast before you go!

Ticket Smarts

Tickets can be purchased on-site, and lines are often shorter than expected, especially on weekdays. Consider combo tickets for the observatory and the damper exhibition for a more comprehensive experience. Payment options are flexible, including card, cash, and Alipay.

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Shanghai Tower Observatory for its breathtaking panoramic views and the thrilling experience of riding the world's fastest elevator. The damper exhibition is noted as an interesting engineering highlight. While some find the light show a bit commercial, the overall consensus is that it's a must-visit attraction offering excellent value and a memorable perspective of Shanghai.

"The view from the observatory was amazing. Since I went to Pearl Tower just 30 mins before going up on Shanghai Tower, it allowed me to compare the experience.

Shanghai Tower surely gives you a better view that is incomparable to Pearl Tower. There were also less people at Shanghai Tower. Making it more pleasant since it was loud in the Pearl Tower observatory.

The light show at the 125th and 126th floor was interesting but it was more marketing to collect more money as they utilize this space where the dampener lives for business gain. Would not recommend as I would rather spend the extra by going to the tower cafe and enjoy a snack there while enjoying the view."

Kenneth Tong

"3rd tallest Tower in the World as of 2025 and definitely a must visit when in Shanghai.

The observation deck on the 118 and 119 floor gives you amazing 360 degree views from Shanghai.
There is surprisingly no queues for tickets and prices start from 180 RMB to the observation level. For 246 RMB you can go to the top where there is some sort of exhibition.

The lift goes up in around 55 seconds and you can stay as long or as short as you want. There is a cafe and restaurant available as well as a gift shop.

Once you finish you can then get some food in the food court downstairs.

Best time to visit I is on a nice day with clear view close to sunset so you can catch the time when Shanghai lights up."

Phil Stone

"Shanghai Tower is one of the most impressive attractions in Shanghai and the third tallest tower in the world. The observation deck on the 118th floor offers a stunning panoramic view of the entire city—perfect for photography enthusiasts who want to capture the skyline.
From the top, you can see the Huangpu River dividing the city into two parts. The river is always bustling with ships, adding to the spectacular scene.
At the base and the top of the tower, you will find shopping areas where you can buy souvenirs such as miniature Shanghai Tower statues and handmade bracelets.

Ticket Information:
Ticket price is about 180–200 Yuan per person.
If you are a foreign traveler, be sure to carry your passport and visa, as you will need to show them when purchasing tickets.
The ground floor of Shanghai Tower also has a large shopping mall and a food court, making it easy to relax and enjoy a meal. The area surrounding the tower is filled with other tall, modern buildings, creating a beautiful cityscape worth exploring."
