What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Quanjude is widely praised for its authentic and delicious Peking Duck, with many highlighting the crispy skin and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The live carving adds a theatrical element to the dining experience. However, some diners have found certain dishes to be overly fatty or have experienced less-than-ideal service, with one review noting a strong smell from the duck soup and dismissive staff.
"Really good restaurant to visit in Beijing! For me, this Peking duck is much better than others! The way the duck meat and fat melt in your mouth… omg, it’s truly amazing! 🤩
The price is also good considering the food quality.
Highly recommended!
Note: If you are a foreigner, please check other people’s reviews and look at the food photos, because not all dishes are written clearly on the menu and the staff’s English is limited. 🫠"

"If you're in Beijing and craving the real deal Peking Duck, Quanjude is the place to be. I went in trusting the glowing reviews, and judging by the queue, I wasn’t the only one. A solid 30-minute wait for a table, but hey, good things come to those who wait.
The menu is a duck lover’s dream. Duck soup, duck pâté, duck slices, duck skin… you name it. Sure, they have non-duck dishes too, but honestly, why would you come here and skip the star of the show?
I went for the tasting menu to try a bit of everything. I’d read the portions were generous, but that was an understatement. Even after a light lunch, the duck won the battle.
First came a duck broth with rice—served in a bowl that could double as a birdbath. Then, duck pâté topped with crispy skin. Absolutely delicious. And then, the main event: the live carving show. The chef slices the duck with surgical precision, crafting a flower out of the meat. It’s theatrical, it’s beautiful, and then they hand you about half a kilo of duck.
You wrap it all up in delicate pancakes (Sorry, I forgot the real name) with sweet sauce, scallions, and cucumber. Classic, satisfying, and dangerously addictive.
The restaurant itself is elegant and refined, with a touch of old Beijing charm. It’s not just a meal. It’s an experience. And yes, it totally deserves the queue."

"We ordered the Peony Peking duck and we found that it was not crispy and extremely fatty. The white soup they served has a strong smell of fatty duck and tastes more like dirty dish water left over from cleaning the pan in which the duck is cooked. Horrible.
They cut the duck not the usual way where they serve only the crispy skin but each slice had fat and meat on it with only a little skin.
The waiters were practically just tossing the dishes on the table and when I let them know how bad the duck was they just laughed.
I don’t care if you have restaurants in Canada, Australia, etc but it’s extremely over-rated and I would NOT recommend. Definitely not worth t"

The Art of Peking Duck at Quanjude
When you order the duck, it's typically presented whole before being expertly carved tableside. This carving is not just for show; it's a skill that ensures you get the best parts of the duck, including the prized crispy skin. The meat is then served with thin pancakes, scallions, cucumber, and a sweet bean sauce (tianmianjiang). The ritual of assembling your own wrap is a quintessential part of the Peking Duck experience.
While the duck is the undisputed star, Quanjude also offers a range of other dishes. Some visitors recommend trying the duck soup, duck pâté, or other savory options. However, the consensus is that to truly appreciate Quanjude, you must indulge in their signature Peking Duck.

The restaurant's reputation extends globally, with branches in other countries, but the Beijing locations, particularly Wangfujing, are considered the authentic origin.
