Reviews Summary
Laoshan Mountain offers breathtaking views, especially from its peaks and coastal areas, making it a worthwhile day trip from Qingdao. Visitors enjoy the unique Laoshan Cola and the cultural significance of sites like Taiqing Palace. However, some find the hiking trails to be monotonous staircases rather than traditional hikes.
"Lovely day trip to Mount Laoshan. We started off by taxi who brought us to the ticket office area. From there a shuttle bus brings you to the foot of the Laoshan scenic area. Before we went hiking, we noticed a lot of people searching for crabs and shrimps between the rocks on a nearby beach. We joined in on the fun for a good 2 hours before deciding we should start our hike upwards.
We bought the local Laoshan Coke drink (highly recommend! has a licorice-like taste) and climbed up the many stair the entry area has.
After about 70 minutes of intense hiking we reached the cable cart area and took a cart to the next area, from where we continued after a refreshment. We went as far as we could go, running into a small monastey with local monks (also a nice photo spot).
We took a different road back and walked nearly 3 hours across the water, eventually passing one of the bigger waterfalls in the area and when it became dark fireflies came out.
We did not encounter any dogs or monkeys, as the sign suggests. Only a couple friendly cats.
Highly recommend to visit for a full day trip. Make sure you bring mosqito repellant and plenty of water."

"Pretty decent hike up and very nice views as well."

"Laoshan was both a great place and disappointment at the same time. The view was amazing but the path was only staircases up and down, very boring and nothing close to hiking. We followed the path all around the mountain, but the best view was from the top at the first gate."
