What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning panoramic views of Dianchi Lake and the impressive, ancient Buddhist grottoes carved into the cliffs. The option of a scenic cable car ride is a popular choice for reaching the summit, though many also enjoy the rewarding hike. Some find the 'Small Stone Forest' underwhelming, and crowds can be an issue on weekends.
"If you visit this on the same day as ethnic minority village , you can get the gondola up the mountain just outside the South Gate of the minority village. Then it’s a 20-30 minute hike to the dragon gate, or can can take a bus followed by a 15 minute hike. Coming down the mountain you can either take the gondola back down. Or there is a bus which connects to the subway. Big crowds on weekends and public holidays"

"This is an absolute must-visit! You have the option of a challenging but rewarding hike up the slope stairs, or a convenient and scenic cable car ride to the summit. I chose to walk and was rewarded with breathtaking views throughout the journey. I especially enjoyed reading the informative descriptions of each station, which were helpfully provided in English.
While restrooms are available in several buildings, it's always a good idea to carry your own tissues and a water bottle.
The scenery was simply stunning – truly amazing and breathtaking. It was an experience I highly recommend!"

"If you come here by subway , the station is “Western hills park” which is the last station on Metro line 3.
Upon exiting from the subway station , walk ahead and you will reach the ticketing office. Apart from the entrance ticket (30 RMB) , it is advisable to also buy the bus ticket (12.50 RMB per trip) to bring you closer to the actual hill area (which is 9km away from the ticket office) ; also to buy the tram car (10 RMB per trip) to bring you to the actual hill area.
There are several eateries at the ticket office area.
As the chair-lift is under upgrading at the time of my visit, it was not available. Otherwise, you could either take it to go to the top and then walk down as you explore each place or vice- versa.
The climb up is definitely manageable.
There are several temples along the way to the main attraction , “Dragon’s gate” which is actually just a doorway near the top. You would be able to see a panaromic view of Dianchi lake below.
After visiting the “Dragon’s gate” , you could explore further by going up to the “Ling Xu pavilion” . There is also a panaromic view of Dianchi lake. There is also a “Small stone forest scenic area”on the route map but it is really not attractive to see."
