What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Great Wall's breathtaking beauty, especially at night, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The illuminated sections and panoramic views are highlights, though the steep, numerous steps require good physical fitness. Some find it crowded even during off-peak times.
"A must visit place when you are in Beijing. It was a magnificent and surreal place to be. It is quite far from the city but you can easily find many tour busses to go there.
We went to the Mutianyu part and arrived here at 10am amd surprisingly, it was not crowded at all. It is better to purchase the ticket for Bus and Cable Car too especially if you have elderly people or you can purchase Tobogan on your way down too.
We found there were lots of cute and friendly cats around the area, starting right from the entrance. Turns out, they provide place for the cats, which is very nice.
From the entrance, you can find many restaurants including chain like BK, starbucks, Pizza Hut and KFC as well as many souvenir shops (dont forget to bargain).
Next, we take the bus ride about 3km to the Gondola station. From the bus stop it is still a hike to the Gondola station, again may not be easy for eldery people.
After the Gondola ridey we have finally arrived at watch tower 14 of the Great Wall of China. It was amazing scenery accompanied by beautiful sunny winter day. We enjoy taking pictures, talking, even petting some cats and of course admiring the Great Wall of China.
Hope to go back here again someday."

"The Great Wall of China is truly an unforgettable historical landmark. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset. Walking along the wall feels like stepping back in time, and it’s amazing to see how long and impressive the structure really is.
I recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as the stairs can be steep in some areas. If possible, visit on a weekday to avoid large crowds. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and definitely worth the trip!"

"The Great Wall—one of the Seven Wonders of the World!
Truly an unforgettable experience. We recommend starting early (around 7:30 AM) to beat the crowds. By the time we finished around 11:30, it was packed and hard to get clear photos—so the earlier, the better!
We had hoped to catch the sunrise, but the site only opens at 7:30, so that’s good to know in advance. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance, and there’s a small market area with basic coffee (don’t expect too much!) and plenty of vendors along the way—feel free to browse and negotiate prices.
Traveling with three kids and three tired broken legs(ours), we took it easy—rode the cable car up and the toboggan down, which the kids absolutely loved! In between, we walked, laughed, ate and took lots of photos, soaking in every moment of this incredible place.
Tip: bring water, good shoes, and patience—it’s a climb worth every step.
A once-in-a-lifetime family experience—absolutely must-do! 🏯✨
It’s my second - highly suggest to climb a different part every time. 🤨"
