What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Yamnuska is a highly rewarding hike with stunning panoramic views, especially at sunrise. Visitors appreciate the adventurous scramble and chain section, though the descent can be challenging due to loose scree. It's a popular spot for both hikers and climbers, but not recommended for beginners.
"Good hike. Came relatively early (8:20am) and did the hike in just under three hours. Definitely recommend coming early. I had no trouble finding parking and had quiet hike up. As long as you have good footwear, you shouldn't have any trouble going up. Though I wouldn't recommend the scree slope down for anybody in experienced as it is pretty fast and loose. It did get fairly windy up at the top so keep that in mind when planning."

"Did this as my first solo sunrise hike on July 31st. Arrived at parking 3:45AM, absolutely no one was there but me(and maybe some bears haha). 4AM started the trek. Around 4:30AM saw two pairs of glowing eyes less than 18ft in front of me and instanly got spooked. My fight or flight kicked in so I just started making loud cavemen sounds and eventually scared em off. It was probably just some animal, or maybe a skinwalker, or two serial killers chillin in the woods lookin for their next victim. But well, I survived enough to write a review so. The first 3.7km is just going through the wooded section of the hike. After that is where you begin the journey for the peak. Walk couple more feet and you instantly have to go on all fours and through a nice rock formation. Eventually you'll arrive at the chain section and I'd say it wasn't that bad if you have moderately sized balls. Reaching the peak, you really gotta push since the incline is a moderate gain with a bit of scrambling. But I got to the peak later than expected around 6:30AM.
Views were top notch. Definitely worth it doing as a sunrise hike because the stars were absolutely diabocally mesmerizing.
The way down is lots of loose rocks. I went down the recommended route. After the loose rocks you just go through the wooded section that eventually leads you back to to the parking. About halfway through that section is a nice little water fall so make sure to stop and feel the water on your big forehead. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Bye."

"Yamnuska Trail is an incredible adventure just a short drive from Calgary. I’ve hiked it twice and absolutely loved it both times, it’s one of those trails you’ll want to return to. The scenery is stunning, with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The trail offers a good mix of hiking and light scrambling, and the chain section adds a fun and slightly technical element that makes the experience even more memorable."
