Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Rainbow Mountain for its stunning alpine scenery and the rewarding hike to Rainbow Lake. The challenging scramble to the summit is a highlight for experienced adventurers. Some note the difficulty and potential for unstable terrain, advising caution and proper preparation.

"Did a hike to ice Berg Lake but ended up hiking up to the summit tho we did not know that the west ridge trail existed. So we just took off from front face of the mountain and did scrambling all the way to the top. At most times it was just a wall so had to make the decend was much more difficult, the rocks were unstable and showed effects of erosion, water from the glacier made the terrains slippery, at many spots it was 51/49 against us
Would recommend 10/10"

Hiking Rainbow Lake Trail

The Rainbow Lake Trail is a popular choice for hikers seeking alpine beauty without extreme technical difficulty. This approximately 16-kilometer round-trip hike is generally rated as moderate to difficult due to its length and elevation gain. The trail winds through lush forests, crosses charming bridges over creeks, and passes by waterfalls, offering a varied and engaging experience. As you ascend, the trees begin to thin, revealing increasingly spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. The reward at the end is the breathtaking Rainbow Lake, a pristine body of water that serves as Whistler's primary water source. While the lake itself is stunning, remember that swimming is prohibited. Instagram+1

Hikers should be prepared for a full day's outing. It's crucial to wear sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support, as the terrain can be uneven and rocky in places. Packing layers of clothing is essential, as mountain weather can change rapidly, bringing cooler temperatures or unexpected rain. Bringing plenty of water and snacks is also vital, as there are no services along the trail. Many visitors recommend starting early in the morning to make the most of the daylight and potentially avoid the midday crowds. TikTok+1

For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the area around Rainbow Mountain offers opportunities for scrambling and mountaineering. These routes are typically unmaintained and require significant experience, navigation skills, and appropriate safety gear. The West Ridge trail is one such option, offering a more direct but demanding ascent to the summit. It's important to thoroughly research these advanced routes and assess your capabilities before attempting them. Reddit

Companies like Blackcomb Helicopters offer excursions that soar over iconic landmarks such as Whistler Village, Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, glaciers, and stunning turquoise lakes like Garibaldi Lake. These tours provide a bird's-eye view of the rugged mountain landscapes that are otherwise inaccessible to most visitors. Instagram+2

A highlight of many helicopter tours is the opportunity for a landing on Rainbow Mountain or its glacier. This allows passengers to step out onto the snow-covered peaks, breathe in the crisp alpine air, and take in truly awe-inspiring panoramic views. These landings are typically brief, offering a memorable, albeit fleeting, experience of being on top of the world. The sheer scale and beauty of the mountains from this vantage point are often described as breathtaking and unforgettable. Instagram

While a significant investment, a helicopter tour offers a unique and efficient way to witness the vastness of the Whistler alpine. It's an ideal option for those with limited time or who want to experience the most dramatic scenery. Booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons, to ensure availability.
