Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Newfoundland National War Memorial to be a grand and prestigious monument, deeply honoring the sacrifices of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in WWI. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is particularly moving, serving as a solemn reminder of those lost. While appreciated for its historical significance and design, some note the lack of amenities like seating and its slightly removed location from the main downtown bustle.

"Having had family that fought in the war, its good to see that there is a really nice memorial here in the capital of the province. There is also a Tomb of The Unknown Solider located at this specific memorial. Because of this, there are 1-2 guards that keep watch of the area (not like anything really bad is gonna happen but its important to point out).

The memorial is probably the most grandiose and prestigious in Newfoundland. Infact, if you walk alongside Duckworth street in the area you can see photos of when the memorial was debuted back in 1924.

I think this site is a worthwhile stop even if its only for a couple of minutes. Its not that big, but it gets the job done."

"War memorial of all the many lives lost in WWI. The black coffin of the unknown soldier pays tribute to the many soldiers who never made it home and have no graves. It has a forget me not flower carved on the tomb which is a symbol of remembrance for the soldiers of Newfoundland & Labrador.

It’s a sobering reminder of how much was sacrificed by this province."

"They will be laying down the unknown soldier on Canada Day tomorrow, so I highly recommend it if you are in St John's this weekend. It was fenced off in preparation for this event so we couldn't get close. Still a beautiful place to visit even at a distance."
