Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Gaelic College for its authentic cultural demonstrations and the vibrant atmosphere of the lunchtime Ceilidh. The staff are generally found to be knowledgeable and welcoming, contributing to a positive learning experience. However, some guests have encountered less friendly staff in specific areas, and photography restrictions can be a point of contention.

"Loved the presentations/demonstrations (kilt wearing, loom weaving, language instruction and milling frolic, step dancing and fiddle playing) . We learned so much in an engaging fashion. Great facilities, awesome staff, very knowledgeable. My youngest was a bit bored but the visuals were well done. The museum portion itself was well done but not as engaging. There is a portion where you can listen to the story of an early settler but some of the audio clips were very long. Good information boards to read instead. I wish the lunch Ceilidh was included in the admission entrance so we skipped the live music unfortunately. Would recommend as you will learn something unique!"

"We went to the gift shop and the Hall of Clans and were disappointed - not in what was offered (the oatcakes sold in the gift shop were absolutely delicious for one!) but in the staff, who unlike everyone in Cape Breton were neither friendly nor welcoming. 😕 My sister and I went to the Hall of Clans and a very nice young girl took our money at the door and checked us in, our very first exhibit was a poster explaining Scottish roots and I took a picture (because my friend had just asked me about Scots & Vikings) and a blond woman came striding right up to us and very abruptly told me “photography is not allowed” so I apologized and said I wasn’t aware (we saw no sign - missed it? I don’t know? and weren’t told this at check in - we were also the only two there!). She then said “I’d like you to delete that off your phone”. Ok!?! What on earth? There are certainly nicer ways of going about that and she was abrupt, rude and unfriendly. It ruined our whole museum experience and we quickly went through the rest and left within 5 minutes of entering. So so disappointed. Then the lady at the gift shop told the young girl working with her that she “would explain something to her because she’s the only one who would understand out of the whole staff” - not nice within earshot of customers. Hopefully others have a better experience and we just hit a bad day. I was so hopeful as I’m the Scottish ancestry researcher in the family."

"Just like others have said, wonderful staff. Very helpful and welcoming. We toured the grounds and viewed the campus. Beautiful. The gift store is impressive too, and my Scottish friend found some of his own family’s heritage here. Worth checking out."
