Sombrio Beach is a beloved destination for its stunning natural beauty, from its rocky shores and surfing waves to its magical hidden waterfall. Visitors appreciate the free access and the immersive coastal experience, though the rocky terrain requires careful footing. The opportunity for backcountry camping adds to its allure for nature lovers.
"The path down to the beach is a hill, but is easy to walk down and well maintained.. probably an almost ten minute walk to beach. Outhouses are at the bottom of the hill just before the beach. Parking lot at the top, fair amount of parking. The beach is beautiful, there were people surfing and paddle boarding.. however it is a little difficult to walk on for anyone who has difficulty with walking… it was hard for our little dog. Lots of rocks. This is along the Juan de Fuca trail, so there’s hikers crossing through.. and there is camping. We didn’t go but apparently there is a waterfall about a 25minute hike down the way to the south. I would have gone if I was on my own for sure, so I will have to check it out next time."

"It's probably my most favorite experience while on vancouver island. It had everything, lush forest, tide pools, amazing rock formation, cool rocks and driftwood. There were lots of surfers and campers as well, we got there around noon. Maybe would be less crowed earlier, but either way an mazing experience. We did find the jidden falls after finding false creeks coming out of the rocks. From the east trail ots about a 10 to 15 min walk (we had a 4 year old) as we stopped so many time to see cool things on the way. Parking is free, entry is free and its only a 5 minute walk to the beach"

"Easy walk with a short trail. The beach is quite rocky — can be an ankle breaker if you’re not careful — but the hidden waterfall was absolutely magical and worth the visit."
