Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Lusk Cave as a top hiking and adventure experience, praising the unique cave exploration and scenic trail. The need for headlamps and water shoes is consistently highlighted, along with the certainty of getting wet. Some find the cave challenging due to water depth and low ceilings, but most agree it's a must-visit for its adventurous nature.

"One of my top ten hiking experiences due to the cave at the end! We went before 10am which was good 'cause it can get busy by noon. Also, we brought some headlamps which we picked up at a dollar store, which made everything much easier. also, we were prepared to get wet because we had read that you need to go up to your chin in water.. which we did.

if you've never been underground, this might be a bit overwhelming. for us it was totally cool! When we arrived, we saw a six year-old and his dad emerging so we knew that it was quite doable for us.

We went in August and the water was a decent temperature. The cave was cool but not cold and the climbing felt relatively safe. There are about three spots where there are natural skylights. The traverse takes about 10-15 minutes to go through slowly. we had so much fun. We did it twice."

"One of the best experiences you can have if you live nearby, this is the must trail.
Be prepared to walk around 9-10km out and back. Normally takes around 2-3 hours in total, depending on how much time you are spending at the cave itself.
Please carry extra pair of shoes with you, headlamps are necessary- Do not rely on phone lights, also carry extra pair of clothes as there is no chance that you can get out with dry clothes. Please keep bug spray with you for afterwards as it can get bad."

"Visited again in the second week of October 2025— adding more videos this time.

We parked at Parent Beach. At the entrance, about 3 km from the lot, you take a token. Parking costs CAD 2.75 per hour (max CAD 15), and you pay when leaving. The parking lot is big, but better to come early on weekends and holidays.

There are three trails to reach the cave: Trail 50, Trail 73, and Trail 54. Trail 50 goes along Philippe Lake and is the easiest. Trails 73 and 54 are harder. We took Trail 50, and it took about an hour to reach the cave. Since it was a long weekend, the place was busy.

I carried water shoes, spare clothes, socks, a towel, and a headlight. These were very useful. When you arrive, you first see the cave exit. If you keep walking, you pass a middle section, and then you reach the main entry point. The cave is about 150 meters long and has two sections.

First section: Easy. Water is knee-deep. Water shoes are best, but normal shoes work if you carry extras. Kids should wear helmets, and it’s not safe to go barefoot because of sharp rocks. Some people turned back because of the low ceiling. There is an exit here if you want to stop.

Second section: Harder. More rocks, and the water is deeper (waist to neck). At the end, the ceiling is very low, and you need to bend for 4–6 meters. Not many people try this, but it is possible.

It took me about 30 minutes to do both parts. The first part was crowded with people taking pictures, but the second part was quiet.

After finishing the cave, we returned using Trail 54 to visit Lusk Cabin. This trail is a little tougher, but only about 3.5 km, not very well maintained, and only a few people use it. Lusk Cabin is on the bank of Lusk Lake, and the area is very beautiful.

In total, we walked about 12 km. It was an amazing and exciting trip. Lusk Cave is a must-visit place in Gatineau Park."
