The Rivière-du-Loup Saint-Siméon ferry generally offers a good experience with scenic views and family-friendly aspects. However, clear communication regarding payment procedures and boarding times could be improved, as some travelers found the process confusing. Arriving early is consistently recommended for a smoother journey.
"Over all first ferry was a good experience
The kids loved it and we were able to grab a drink on the boat. I do understand it's all I'm french but wished someone explained to us better about how to pay for the ferry."
Katelyn Ranger
"We took the 7:45am ferry with our car and arrived at the recommended 90min advance to get in queue. Departed on time.
Learn from our mistake: the line up of people are not getting coffee- they are paying their fares! Take your ticket with you, the cashier is on the 2nd floor, pay during your ride, before getting back into your car."
Ann
"We arrived to the Ferry lanes 90 minutes exactly before the Ferry was scheduled to arrive. We barely made it on the Ferry. We were one of the last 4 vehicles to board the boat. If you can get there earlier than 90 minutes do it! You park your vehicle in a lane and can wonder around the area. There is a restaurant, ice cream shops, and a beach to keep busy while waiting. The view is wonderful as well!
The Ferry staff were so efficient in boarding everyone- it was a tight squeeze! The on-boat staff were great as well! We didnt know right away, but you have to pay your fee on the boat. Luckily we walked around and then saw people doing this so we caught on. When you leave off the boat, the staff collect your receipts. FYI as we didn't know! :)
The ride was wonderful, such a great view!"

Navigating the Ferry Experience
Once onboard, the payment system can be a point of confusion for first-time visitors. Fares are collected on the second floor of the ferry, not in the waiting lanes. It's crucial to keep your receipt, as it will be checked when you disembark. While the ride itself offers lovely views, note that access to the exterior for photography might be limited once you're on the deck.
For a smoother journey, consider packing your own snacks and drinks. Since you won't be able to access your car during the approximately 70-minute crossing, having provisions onboard is a practical tip shared by many. The ferry is also equipped to handle pets, so your furry companions can join the adventure.
Maximizing Your Wait Time
This extended waiting period can be a great opportunity to relax, grab a bite, or let children burn off some energy before the journey. It transforms what could be a tedious wait into a pleasant part of your travel day.
