What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Richmond Hill Pro Bowl offers a classic, affordable bowling experience with a strong sense of nostalgia. While some visitors praise its retro charm, reasonable prices, and straightforward service, others have expressed dissatisfaction with customer service interactions and dated amenities. It's a place that appeals to those seeking an authentic, no-frills outing rather than a modern, high-tech entertainment center.
"AVOID Richmond Hill Pro Bowler Like the Plague!
I'm still fuming writing this review. my daughter joined her grade 6 church group to what I thought would be a fun night out at Richmond Hill Pro Bowler. BIG MISTAKE. The place is a DISASTER - dirty, shady, and the staff are completely clueless.
My daughter tried to buy food for her teammates (already purchased chicken nuggets, mozzarella cheese sticks, a slushy) and they were literally denied a LARGE POPCORN because she didn't want to buy 4 more bags or round up 4 more friends. Yes, you read that right. They wouldn't even sell her a large bag. Because they don't want to run the machine only to sell 1 large bag. Unbelievable.
But wait, it gets better. Their jelly Bean candy machine swindled my daughter's friend's quarter and the staff wouldn't even bother to help or refund the money. "The quarter is in, can't get it back out"?! Are you kidding me?!
Zero customer service, dirty environment, and rip-off machines. Would NOT recommend Richmond Hill Pro Bowler to my worst enemy. 0/5 stars would not waste my time or money again.
Edit (respond to owner):
I'm appalled, but not surprised, by your response. As the owner, you should be ashamed of the lack of customer service and poor treatment of my daughter and her church group. The issues we experienced were not just about a jelly bean and popcorn, but about being treated unfairly and disrespected.
To clarify, the kids did go to the front desk for help with the malfunctioning candy machine, and your staff (and/or you) refused to assist or provide a refund. This is unacceptable.
I'm not making excuses or trying to make the church group look bad, so don't put words in my mouth; I'm sharing our genuine experience. Your establishment FAILED to provide basic customer service, and it's disappointing that you're more concerned with defending your business than addressing the issues.
As a parent and advocate for quality education, I'm particularly disturbed by the treatment my daughter and her teammates received. Your staff's and your behavior was unprofessional, and your response only reinforces our decision to warn others about the poor service at Richmond Hill Pro Bowler.
I stand by my review and encourage others to share their experiences. I hope you'll take this as an opportunity to reflect on your business practices and make necessary changes to improve customer service."

"Richmond Hill Pro Bowling offers a classic Canadian bowling experience that's fun for all ages. The alley has a great selection of weighted bowling balls, making it easy to find the right fit whether you're a beginner or more experienced. We opted for 10-pin and 5-pin bowling for an hour which felt like the perfect amount of time for casual play.
We visited on a Sunday evening, and the place was pleasantly quiet, a great break from sightseeing. It’s a fantastic spot for singles, couples, and families. They also offer 5-pin bowling and bowling ramp, which is ideal for kids or anyone looking for a lighter option. Our children enjoyed themselves, and it’s a great family, friendly environment. I just wish there were more arcade games available as they only had a couple of them, and a few more would really add to the experience for younger visitors.
The staff were friendly and efficient, setting us up quickly. They were helpful if needed help like even when kids asking for changing bills to coins for the couple arcades. It's a first-come, first-served setup, so I’d recommend just showing up rather than trying to make a reservation by phone. The food and drink options are limited and fairly average, but it’s not a deal breaker given the overall experience.
Highly recommended for a fun, laid-back bowling outing!"

"I’ve read some reviews and thought a lot about my experience. Most of those negative reviews seem to come from overly sensitive or reactive people. Yes, the staff aren’t your typical overly cheerful customer service types, but they were fully compliant with questions and requests. It wasn’t disrespectful, it was straightforward. Honestly, if you can’t handle that, you probably wouldn’t cope well with American-style customer service, which often values no nonsense and practicality over fake niceness. It’s obvious they’ve been here a long time and have seen their fair share of entitled or difficult customers. They’re professional, competent, and know how to run the place without pretending or overdoing friendliness.
I’ve spent the time to write this as an appreciation reflecting from my experience and felt like it deserved a review. That being said, I came here with a friend and immediately loved the vibe, really nostalgic, felt like stepping into a childhood memory. Talked to the guy at the front and found out the place has been around since the 90s. Honestly, this was the best bowling experience I’ve had compared to other places. The whole environment felt natural and authentic, nothing like the corporate, modern, “pretty but basic” alleys. The food was also far more enjoyable than what you normally get. Prices were reasonable and practical, way less ridiculous than paying half the price for a single game at other spots. (To those stating it’s expensive, it is very competitive and reasonable compared to others and unrealistic to say otherwise) The music isn’t blasted like in a club, and the staff felt far more authentic than typical customer service, which made the place feel timeless rather than overly modern.
All in all, it felt exactly like what you’d imagine “back in the days” bowling, with no dilution or pretense. This was a genuinely enjoyable experience that made me want to make it a main spot moving forward. If you don’t enjoy it, fine, don’t come back, but for me, this was authentic, memorable, traditional and far better than anything corporate or modern I’ve tried."

The Richmond Hill Pro Bowl Experience: Nostalgia vs. Modern Expectations
However, this retro charm can sometimes be perceived as dated or lacking by those accustomed to contemporary amenities. Some reviews mention a lack of modern arcade games or a simpler food menu. The staff's straightforward, no-nonsense approach, while appreciated by some for its efficiency and authenticity, has been criticized by others for lacking typical customer service warmth. It's important for visitors to manage expectations: this is a place that prioritizes a genuine, old-school bowling experience over polished perfection.
Despite differing opinions on the service and amenities, the core appeal of Richmond Hill Pro Bowl lies in its affordability and its commitment to a classic Canadian bowling tradition. It provides a fun, accessible, and budget-friendly activity that resonates with those seeking a more down-to-earth outing.
Navigating Customer Service and Expectations
One particularly critical review detailed an incident where staff allegedly refused to assist with a malfunctioning candy machine or provide a refund, and also denied a customer the purchase of a large popcorn. [^Review] This experience led to accusations of poor customer service and unfair treatment. The owner's response to this review defended the staff's approach as practical and no-nonsense, suggesting that some customers may have unrealistic expectations for overly cheerful service. [^Review]
It appears that the staff's communication style is direct and focused on operational efficiency rather than effusive customer engagement. For visitors who appreciate a practical, no-frills approach, this may be perfectly acceptable. However, those expecting a highly personalized or overtly friendly service might find it lacking. Understanding this dynamic beforehand can help manage expectations and ensure a more positive visit.
