Reviews Summary

Nelson City Centre is praised for its beautiful historic architecture and stunning natural surroundings, particularly the views from the Centre of New Zealand. Visitors appreciate the walkable nature of the city and its burgeoning arts scene. However, some reviews mention concerns about the visibility of homelessness and the presence of bears, suggesting a need for community awareness and responsible practices.

"In 1886, the Hall brothers of Colville, Washington discovered silver, copper, gold, and lead on Toad Mountain, south of Nelson. Several claims were staked including the famous Silver King mine. The Kootenay Lake landing used by the mines quickly developed into the town of Nelson. Growing from a mining camp into a supply and distribution centre, Nelson offered hotels, stables, trade shops, and outfitters. Rail and water transportation links developed, connecting Nelson to the CPR line at Revelstoke, and the Inland Empire at Spokane. The city was incorporated in 1897. Nelson's Cottonwood Falls (1896) and then the Bonnington Falls plant (1908) provided electricity for local mines, city street lights, and the city's Electric Tramway system. The logging industry expanded along with government, education and service sectors. Impressive buildings from the turn of the century continue to preserve a sense of place and are a source of community pride."

"It's where Service BC is. Recently the homeless people of Nelson set up a tent town on the front lawn due to the fact that Nelson Cares that is supposed to be helping them has actually been fraudulently keeping most of the money that gets donated for the homeless. So instead of providing affordable housing, food, clothing & whatever else is needed, Nelson Cares has been hiding a good portion of the money & using some to pay their employees that run their services large wages. Then a tiny bit goes to the homeless peoples' needs though almost everything that's given out to them is donated. So because they're not fullfilling their obligations & nobody is doing anything about it the homeless are being forced to do whatever they have to in order to survive. Of course the people that run City Hall are trying to keep them segregated to a small area & trying to keep as many homeless from joining the camp as they can. Also they're using sound to attempt to control the homeless. The sound is unbearable by most so it's a subconscious thing for the most part but I have extremely a cute hearing & I could hear the sounds & feel what the sound was meant to make them feel. So if you happen to go to City Hall, find yourself suddenly feeling tired & kind of unable to think properly that's the sound being used on the homeless affecting you. And if you feel like you want to help the homeless at Al the best thing you can do is if you have donations of any sort take them to the homeless. Don't worry they are nicer than they look & very appreciative of any help given them!"

"Allowing that 12 bears are killed this year so far in this town. City is responsible. This is a small town and why are they not reinforcing fines to ignorant citizens for not securing garbage and also ha ong bear proof containers. The number of bears killed far surpass North Vancouver"
