Reviews Summary

Gold Creek Falls is lauded for its breathtaking waterfall views, particularly the Lower Falls, which offer a powerful and scenic experience. While the hikes can be steep and some trails less marked, visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the opportunity for a refreshing dip. Some find the Upper Falls overrated or difficult to access, suggesting a focus on the Lower Falls for a more rewarding visit.

"went with a group of friends on a weekend morning. Since we needed to book a parking spot (which was free), we didn't have to worry about arriving too early.

The view of the waterfall was breathtaking, and it was definitely worth the steep and somewhat intense hike down the trail. That said, regular sneakers are not recommended; hiking shoes or boots are necessary.

It was early June, so the water was still cold, but we saw some people swimming there."

"TL;DR: This place is overrated. You can ignore the Upper fall as the scenery is not as great as the other spots around. Just go to the Lower fall only or if you like a long hike, plus the Viewpoint beach. That's it. You would not miss anything by that.

Okay, I dare to put a lower rating here as I think this viewing point is overrated. As already mentioned in the other reviews, there is no official trail for this point. There are marks for the route here and there, but it is still easy to get lost. Be equipped with a good GPS or something.

Also, the route is not easy to find either. First I did not notice the route to the point, and just went to the Viewpoint beach trail straight. When I come back to, I noticed the route for this one and got there. Plus, the Upper fall route is not on the way of the other routes, so you have to spend your time to just drop by here, which could take somewhat a long time.

With these all efforts and risks, what you would get is just the pictures I uploaded - still good but not great compared to the Lower fall or the Viewpoint beach ones. Also, the site point is tiny and you do not have access to the fall or river. I think some people uploaded different view point pics here such as the Lower fall ones etc.

I would suggest just passing this one as I think it is highly overrated because of the sunk cost they paid... including me."

"We hiked Alder flats view point) and canyon trail loop & upper falls in a sunny day. Total 17KM, took us 7 hours including lot of time for lunch and photos. We began at West Canyon parking lot. The trail was wet and it was cold in the forest. The trail to upper falls is not marked. You have to pay attention look at creek side to find the way. The view from upper force is spectacular!"

Navigating the Trails of Golden Ears

Golden Ears Provincial Park offers a network of trails, but not all are officially marked, which can be a point of confusion for visitors. The Lower Gold Creek Falls trail is generally well-defined, though steep. This requires hikers to be more vigilant, looking for cairns or subtle markers along the creek side. Reddit

For those seeking a longer adventure, the East Canyon Trail can be combined with the Lower Gold Creek Falls trail to form a loop. This offers a more extensive hiking experience, covering significant mileage and varied terrain. It's crucial to have a reliable map or GPS device, as getting lost is a possibility, especially if you stray from the main social paths. Reddit

Key takeaway: Always check trail conditions and be prepared for less-marked sections. Prioritize safety over reaching a specific viewpoint if the path seems too risky. The park's beauty is best enjoyed when you're well-prepared and aware of the challenges.

The Allure of Gold Creek Falls: Lower vs. Upper

When visiting Gold Creek Falls, many travelers debate whether to focus on the Lower or Upper falls. The Lower Gold Creek Falls are often praised for their dramatic beauty and accessibility, offering a powerful cascade that's a feast for the eyes. The hike down, while steep, is generally considered manageable for most hikers with appropriate footwear. Reddit

The Upper Gold Creek Falls, on the other hand, provide a different perspective, often described as spectacular from above. However, reaching them can be more challenging, with less defined trails and potential navigation difficulties. Some reviews suggest that while the view is great, the effort and risk involved might not always match the reward compared to the Lower Falls. Reddit

Ultimately, the choice depends on your hiking comfort level and what you seek. If you prefer a more straightforward, impactful waterfall experience, the Lower Falls are a fantastic choice. If you're an experienced hiker looking for a more adventurous route and a unique vantage point, the Upper Falls might be your preference. Many suggest visiting the Lower Falls first and then assessing if you have the time and energy for the Upper Falls.
