Reviews Summary

Visitors are awestruck by the spectacular, ancient old-growth trees and the tranquil forest bathing experience. The well-maintained trails offer a peaceful escape. However, some find the lack of clear signage and seasonal gate closures inconvenient.

"After more than 20 years I visited this place again. What a change; I could not even find the place because the name plate was removed. Then, the gates, with no information why it was there. A fisherman walked around on his way in. I followed. After a short walk, I reached the area what looked like parking spaces with an information stand. Except, that, what used to be an information stand, was now just a huge, empty, wooden stand. The only thing which was the same like 20 years ago, were the pit toilets and they were not gated."

"The water was beautiful and the trails where well maintained and the old growth trees where spectacular. I would definitely do this again since it's so close to sunshine valley and it's really incredible. The signes wherent up however so I am not exactly sure what happened to them"

Andrew Lam

"Sacred stand of old-growth huge trees here, perfect for quiet forest-bathing walks.. Closed from Oct. to May to restore key habitat, please respect! Such stands are becoming sadly rarer in BC due to irresponsible clearcut logging & corrupt, ignorant govts - so appreciate the experience, stay on trails & pack out everything you bring in! Day use only.. (pics taken in summer)"

The Majesty of Old Growth

Sumallo Grove is a protected sanctuary of old-growth forest, a rare and precious ecosystem. Here, you'll encounter colossal cedar, hemlock, and Douglas fir trees, some of which have stood for centuries. The sheer scale of these giants is humbling, creating a cathedral-like atmosphere as sunlight filters through the dense canopy. Walking among them offers a profound sense of connection to nature and a glimpse into a time before widespread logging.

The experience is often described as 'forest bathing', a practice of immersing oneself in the forest atmosphere for well-being. The quietude, the scent of damp earth and ancient wood, and the visual grandeur all contribute to a deeply restorative visit.
