Timing is Everything for Fall Foliage

Rock Dunder is renowned for its spectacular fall colors, drawing crowds eager to witness the vibrant foliage. To experience the best of this natural spectacle with fewer people, aim for weekdays during peak fall season. Early mornings or late afternoons offer softer light for photos and a more serene atmosphere.

Trail Preparedness is Key

While Rock Dunder offers a rewarding hike, it's not a stroll in the park. The Summit Loop involves climbing over rocks and roots, and can be slippery when wet. Proper hiking footwear is essential, and carrying water and snacks is highly recommended, especially if you plan to stay for sunset.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Rock Dunder's stunning natural beauty, especially the breathtaking summit views and vibrant fall foliage. The moderate hike is considered rewarding, though some note challenging rocky sections. It's a popular spot for families and photographers alike, with many recommending it as a must-visit in Eastern Ontario.

"It's amazing trail! Very very beautiful nature, different ways of trail, loop. There are some difficult parts of hiking here, but not really hard. Take water with you! I love Rock Dunder Reserve!"

Kate Sosnovska

"This is a lovely, easy loop that’s perfect for kids. The trail leads to a beautiful viewpoint — especially stunning in the fall — with about a 180° view of the islands, water reserves, and tree-covered surroundings. Peaceful, scenic, and not too challenging. Definitely worth a visit! 🍁🌊 the below picture was taken on Oct 12, 2025"

"$10 per person until Oct 31, 2025. Can pay the person that is there or pay online. Not as much pp for a family of 4. I’m glad it was a cooler day or I would have died. It’s 2km up to the top on the Summit Loop and 2km back to the parking lot. It’s the equivalent to climbing a 20 storey building! Trail has some boardwalks along the way, I assume it may have some areas that get big puddles. Didn’t see any wildlife!?! Maybe a bird. No bugs at this time so that was delightful!!!!

The route is laid out with blue arrows on the ground and yellow triangles on the trees and that helps because of all of the leaves on the ground covering the paths. Also lots of rocks and roots to step over and around so watch your ankles! You go up and down hills to get to the rock and once you get there you must climb up large boulders to get to the top. People must carry their dogs and small kids.

Once at the top there is a gorgeous view especially in the autumn! Rock Dunder is larger than we thought and you can walk along the top until you get to the other end and that is where the real view is.

Then there is the option of going back the same way or keep following the arrows to get back down. We kept following the arrows for a smoother decline off of the rock and an easier, flatter walk back but it felt longer but was beautiful anyways."
