Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Lake Agnes Trail for its stunning alpine scenery, rewarding hike to the historic tea house, and breathtaking viewpoints from the Beehives. The consistent incline is noted as challenging but manageable, with many recommending proper footwear and layers. The main drawback is the difficulty in securing parking or shuttle access, requiring significant advance planning.

"The hike from Lake Agnes to the Plain of Six Glaciers Loop was absolutely breathtaking!
We covered approximately 8.4 miles in total, and it took us about 4 hours to complete—including time for photos, a bathroom break, and a stop at the Tea House for tea and scones (which I highly recommend!).

This is a moderately challenging hike with a fair amount of elevation gain, but the sweeping alpine views, turquoise lakes, and glacier vistas make every step worthwhile.

💡 Trail Tips:

• Wear proper footwear (hiking boots or shoes are strongly recommended).

• Bring plenty of water and layer appropriately—weather conditions can shift quickly at higher altitudes.

• If there’s a chance of rain, pack a windbreaker or rain jacket—there’s minimal tree coverage in some sections of the trail.

• Consider bringing hiking poles—they’ll definitely come in handy, especially on steeper or rocky stretches.

• Bring cash if you plan to purchase anything at the Tea House.

• Be prepared for a wait in line at peak hours.

• Don’t forget your camera—the views are incredible!

⚠️ Important Note:
Public parking at Lake Louise is no longer available for most visitors. You’ll need to purchase shuttle passes in advance through Parks Canada if you plan to hike this trail during the summer months. Spots fill up quickly, so book early!"

Getting There

The tea house is reached via the Lake Agnes Trail, which starts from the Lake Louise lakeshore. The trail itself is well-maintained but involves consistent elevation gain. Instagram

Conquering the Beehive Trails

For those seeking even more spectacular views, the Little Beehive and Big Beehive trails branch off from the Lake Agnes Tea House. These trails offer increasingly dramatic panoramic vistas of Lake Louise, the surrounding peaks, and the valley below. The Little Beehive is a shorter, more accessible option, while the Big Beehive involves a steeper, more challenging ascent. Instagram+1

These viewpoints are particularly popular for sunrise and sunset, offering photographers and nature lovers an unforgettable experience. The effort is well worth the reward, providing some of the most iconic and sweeping views in Banff National Park. Instagram+1

Trail Conditions

Be aware that the Beehive trails are steeper and can be more exposed than the trail to the tea house. Sturdy hiking boots and trekking poles are recommended, especially for the Big Beehive. Instagram+1

Navigating Lake Louise Access

Accessing Lake Louise and its trailheads has become a significant planning point for visitors. Due to overwhelming popularity and environmental concerns, private vehicle access to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake is restricted during much of the year. TikTok

The primary recommended methods of access are the Parks Canada shuttle service and Roam Transit. These services require advance booking, often months ahead, as they sell out rapidly. Failure to book can mean missing out on visiting these iconic spots. Instagram+1

Alternative Access

For those who miss out on shuttle bookings, consider arriving extremely early in the morning (before 5 AM) to try and secure limited parking, or explore options like cycling or walking from designated parking areas if feasible. Always check the latest Parks Canada advisories for the most up-to-date information on access and booking. Instagram
