Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for its significant collection, particularly the unique Maud Lewis exhibit and its iconic painted house. The free Thursday evenings are a major draw, offering an accessible cultural experience. While generally well-received, some find the building's layout confusing and wish for more merchandise related to temporary shows.

"Free Thursday nights after 5pm, can casually walk through all the exhibits in an hour-ish as it’s not a large gallery. Also not busy at all it was largely empty.

Most interesting exhibit is the local one on Maud Lewis and her painted house which physically got put inside the museum!

Cute little gift shop."

"I’ve been traveling a lot, and wherever I go, I make a point of visiting local art galleries. I was truly impressed by this one—deeply rooted in Canadian and First Nations art. It was an amazing visit and a memorable experience that I highly recommend.
To truly understand a city and its people, one must connect with their past and those who came before. This art gallery is beautifully dedicated to that purpose."

Chef Menajem Peretz

"Some really great exhibits/shows on. Wish they had more gift shop merch related to said shows. There were a lot of great indigenous artists but nothing for purchase related to these shows which was disappointing.

Worth a visit even for the long-standing Maud Lewis section.

The map/way-finding could be better. It’s a confusing and maze-like building and i’m not convinced I actually saw everything!"
