What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Florencia Bay's stunning, often secluded beauty and its wild, natural charm. Many appreciate the opportunity for peaceful walks, intertidal exploration, and the chance to surf. While parking and stairs can be minor challenges, the breathtaking scenery and unique atmosphere make it a highly recommended destination.
"It was very foggy on the day we visited the beach but this only added to its charm. You can reach it in 3 ways: from a nearby parking lot in a 2 minutes walk and by 2 longer trails, one from the visitor center from the Long Beach side and another one from a camping site parking lot from the Ucluelet side. All of them are really worth it, the one from the Tofino side is flat, full of berry bushes and about 45 minutes long (1,5 hours both ways). The one from Ucluelet is shorter (30 mins one way) and more scenic, descending in the wild rainforest. Some steps coming back but totally doable even if not trained. I recommend this one."

"Parking is fairly small, probably fills up quick when it’s a nice day.
There is an outhouse toilet.
It’s a short walk from the parking lot and then stop stairs."

"Great bay to visit for a bit. The hike is fairly flat until you get to the stairs at the end. Not bad going down but can be a work out on the way up. Just be prepared for it...it's not that bad. The best way to get to it is by parking near Wya Resort."

Exploring the Trails of Florencia Bay
Access to Florencia Bay itself can also be an adventure. While a short walk from a small parking lot is the quickest route, longer trails offer a more rewarding experience. The trail from the Ucluelet side is particularly scenic, descending into the rainforest before reaching the beach. Be prepared for stairs on the return journey, which can be a good workout but are generally considered manageable. The trail from the Tofino side is longer and flatter, passing through berry bushes, offering a different, yet equally beautiful, perspective.
Florencia Bay: A Haven for Wildlife and Nature Lovers
The beach itself is a dynamic ecosystem, especially during low tide. Exploring the rocky intertidal areas reveals a fascinating world of sea stars, anemones, and other marine life. The bay's natural beauty is so profound that some visitors have even preferred its secluded charm over the more famous Long Beach. The lack of light pollution also makes Florencia Bay an exceptional spot for stargazing, offering a breathtaking celestial display on clear nights.
The Unique Charm of Florencia Bay
While the beach is beautiful for relaxing and playing, it also offers opportunities for adventure. It's a viable spot for surfing, serving as a good alternative when the more popular Cox Bay is packed with surfers. The 6km stretch of coastline provides ample space to explore, find a quiet section, or simply enjoy the powerful ocean views. The presence of large driftwood logs scattered along the shore adds to the wild, untamed beauty of the bay.
