Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Fenland Trail's peaceful atmosphere and easy accessibility, calling it a perfect, tranquil escape close to Banff town. Its flat, well-maintained path makes it ideal for all ages, with the serene forest and creek providing a lovely natural setting. Some note the need for bug spray in the evenings and recommend visiting during daylight hours.

"I did the Fenland Trail in the evening on my way back to Banff town from Vermilion Lakes, and it was the perfect little detour to end the day. It’s an easy, flat loop through beautiful old spruce forest, and you really feel tucked away in nature even though you’re so close to town.

I loved how quiet it was in the evening — just the sound of the creek and birds. I took my time crossing the wooden bridges and stopping to watch the light fade through the trees. It’s only about 2 km so it doesn’t take long, maybe 30–40 minutes at a relaxed pace.

Some tips from my walk:
• If you’re at Vermilion Lakes, it’s really convenient — you can walk or drive a couple of minutes to the Fenland Trail parking lot.
• It’s a gravel/dirt path, really easy to follow and suitable for all ages.
• Bring bug spray if it’s warm — mosquitoes come out near the water, especially at dusk!
• There are benches along the trail if you want to just sit and listen to the creek.
• I’d recommend doing it before it’s fully dark — there are no lights on the trail, so plan for daylight or bring a headlamp if you’re late.

This was a nice, gentle way to wind down after visiting Vermilion Lakes — peaceful, easy, and you end up right near town. If you want a quiet forest walk without needing to drive far, Fenland is a great choice. I’ll definitely do it again next time I’m in Banff!"
